I hate to be that guy, but we acquired two last TDL and they did jackshit for us at the end of the day.

Gotta build from the foundation. They weren't here during a buildup. They weren't here for at least the full season etc. Our foundation has some great pieces (Marchand, Pasta, McAvoy, goaltending) but some glaring weaknesses that a TDL, even one as significant as last years TDL won't fix. Those players knew that they were just hired mercenaries, here to ensure a SC win (which is great if it happens) but they KNEW that they wouldn't be back. It's hard to have loyalty to a place that you've played against your whole career and then
overnight become loyal? Too much to ask IMO.

To hell with Patches- why waste any resources on him? Good player in his prime as dislikeable as he was, but he basically lives on the IR nowawadays.

This is the guy I want, ideally. I don't see it happening at this stage though. He checks a lot of boxes, cheap salary and signed another year after this season for less than $3M
