The Hanifin return screams three things to me:

1) Boston either never wanted to part with the pieces Calgary wanted for an extension or Hanifin was never going to sign with Boston.
2) Tampa's Return was actually ABYSMAL but he would only sign an extension with them.
3) Vegas was like Idk about an extension, here's some poop and Calgary said great a team that doesnt need an extension in place here you go.

I’m annoyed Bruins didn’t match that for Hanifin.

Could fit even at 75% retained without a roster move, didn't want to trade without an extension. who know what cal wanted for extension. the two packages dont exist within a vacuum of each other.

I'm more disappointed than annoyed. They really need another top defenseman to set them up long term. Hanifin would have been a great add.

I don’t follow how a team with McAvoy, Lindholm and Carlo needs another top 4 dman like Hanifin. That should be plenty to fill in around. I can’t ever recall three guys in our top 4 that good, at least in recent memory.

I’d posit they need a tougher version of Forbort for bottom pair, and then more top 6 talent.

He has another gear in the PO's for sure. I like Forbort but he's expendable
