Who are the big money true quality centers that would possibly be available?

I think the better question is who will be sellers at all.

There's this no man's land of teams right now that could fall out by March 8 and create a sell-fest.

Caps, Sabres, Habs, Coyotes, Flames, Wild are all kind of bubble. Maybe even Kraken or Devils with a bad enough losing streak.

I'm not even sure who's selling.

I get it a lot here math is their 3rd subject

excluding covid bubble short year 2020-21

Jake DeBrusk games played 6 years

82 (70) 16 goals 27 A 2017-18
82 (68) 27 goals 15 A 2018-19
82 (65) 19 goals 16 A 2019-20
82 (77) 25 goals 17 A 2021-22
82 (64) 27 goals 23 A 2022-23
49 (47) 12 goals 13 A 2023-24

391 games 126 Goals 111 assists

26.4 Goals per 82

50 points per 82 games over 6 full seasons

The second you realize he barely got PP time in 3/4 of those games you can see that sure, it's 26.4g per 82. But on ANY team giving him PP time he's over 30 per 82. And that's how scouts would assess him too.

It's why some guys can leave a deep team like this one and go rack up points elsewhere. This is a PP league.

Owen Tippet just got an 8x6.2mil contract for a career high of 27 goals and 49 points. Seems like a pretty direct comparable that I'd be thrilled for Jake to come in at.

Reading this news article about the Bahamas and US is warning people if they are traveling there since it has seen a big uptick in violent crime since New years.. If I remember right during a postgame interview Ullmark was asked what his plans are for the bye week and he said the Bahamas. Anyone else catch that or am I dreaming it up lol.

You make the critical point - Hannifin has no trade protection so Calgary's objective - if they can't resign him- is to maximize the return. The acquiring team can worry about the future- the Flames just want to get paid

it's a very interesting question for Sweeny: do you spend assets now to get control of Hannifin and have the ability to offer eight years or do you wait until the off-season and try to sign him then.

What DS does will be an interesting insight into how he views this team's chances of a deep play-off run.
he makes you better now so if you can guarantee that you get him for another year to lower the aav and get him for the run this season go for it. also, calgary would be incentivized to take whatever it can get if the assumption is that they'd lose the player.

Personally I think tanev is a better fit for the Bruins needs for a playoff run though from calgary Ive said it a million times, we miss the nasty on the backend that left when miller retired.

Tippett is nowhere near the 200 foot versatile player DeBrusk is and between Gauthier taking a streaming dump on the front office, and potentially losing their goalie - this was a ‘look over here’

Most Flyers fans on their board think it was an overpay - my vibe was about 2/3rds would’ve not done it- several think Tippett is a very good offensive player but far from complete. Good with puck lost without it. Claude & Cassidy would’ve Vatranoed him

If Sweeney gets DeBrusk at 6.25 M congrats

As unlikely as a trade would be with the Habs they have exactly what the Bruins need. Monahan and Xhekaj.

Monahan, as per local media Monahan has an agreement with the Habs where he will have a say as to where he will be traded at TDL. No mention of which teams he would consider but you would have to think he wants to go to a contending team. Monahan can play all 3 forward positions. Has a 55% FO for this season and last . Has a very low cap hit just under 2M AAV. with 35 points in 49 on a bottom tier team ,he could be a solid add.

Xhekaj was sent down to the AHL for around 40 days. Upon his return he took 3 minor penalties in 2 games and has been a healthy scratch ever since.
He had a very solid rookie season but has been singled out for taking to many untimely penalties this year. He brings a whole lot of nasty which the Bruins could definitely use , especially in the PO's . The Habs have plenty of defensemen prospects in the pipeline and Xhekaj is very unlikely to survive in Montreal long term. With the proper coaching and utilization he could be very effective in Boston.

Donny should do Hanifin or nothing

Screw rentals

Merkulov is better then Monahan I don’t need anything else

They are #1 overall so they can not really improve on that

Tanev has less career fights then Carlo and has never once averaged the amount of hits/60 min that Carlo does right now. Very good player, tough as nails for sure, but he's not really the guys that's gonna "bring the nasty" in the way people here seem to want. He's a top 4 defensive defenseman that shuts plays down with positioning and shot blocking.

I still think Face-offs and size down the middle could be an issue.

If they can fix their penalty problems themselves though, it sure makes Sweeney's life easier. That alone is worth more than they could trade for.

I just wonder if winning more FO's means you're chasing the play less, aka less penalties

Projecting to 82 games is nonsense when the player never plays that many. He's a 20G 35P guy that you'll get 60-65 games a season from.

Tanev = Seidenberg imo. He’d be great behind Carlo.

2025:
Hanifin McAvoy
Lindholm Carlo
Lohrei Tanev

That is an elite level blue line. Unlikely

Why put it over 82 when he never comes close to 82 games. Makes zero sense. You are dealing with imaginary numbers and imaginary games played at this point.

Also just like Ullmark you always exclude the bad years. Bruins still played 56 games that year and he still got injured and sucked.

Can they do those funky deals prior to FA for a pick and then do 8 years

I’m not sure if you can

To sign the player to an 8 year deal he needs to be on your active roster prior to the passing of the previous deadline.

If the Bruins trade for his rights after the season but before FA he can only sign for 7. So in that scenario it would have to be a sign and trade to get 8 years.

It really is amazing the hoops people jump through to skew stats rather than just take them at face value.

Debrusks bad season don’t count

Ullmarks bad playoffs performances don’t count only the 3 good games.

Wish we all had jobs where our bad years were deleted from memory.

Considering he’s scored 25 or more goals three times in last four seasons this take is pathetic

Considering he’s played 70,68,65,77, 64, and 47 of 49 so far this season and you put 60-65 is equally ridiculous

You and Uncle Rico need to get on a text group

Yeah I mean that'd be the best defense is the league, it's 5 top four defenseman, maybe 6 if Lohrei takes a leap like we're hoping. Definitely a bit of a pipe dream though.

Yeah it's crazy right? I can't believe Sweeney paid Pastrnak like an superstar when most of his career he hasn't even been able to top 40 goals.

Pastrnak had already had multiple 40+ goal seasons when he got his contract and was mid way through another season like that. And pastas career averages are insanely good on top of it and he’s rarely injured

People have been calling for Debrusk $7+ and some even $7.5+ since the summer and labeling him as 30+ goal scorer or even 35+ goal scorer. Unlike pasta his season averages are hampered by being often injured bringing down his value substantially.

Big difference is one was actually putting up those numbers while the other wasn’t.

How is that so hard for you to understand?

That’s roughly top 60 forward money in the NHL. You really think he’s a top 60 forward?

coming from the guy who just said merkulov>Monaghan I couldn’t be happier you are on the opposite side

Anyhow, Debrusk is tied for 124th in total points among forwards the last 2.5 seasons. I even didn’t count his extremely poor covid season to only include his best most recent years since that’s how you want to do it.

Not ideal production for what you are trying to jump through hoops to make him out to be.

If you want to slide him up to 100ish for his defense go for it but that’s still well below $6AAV value.

1. Cap space can be created.........Gryz, Forbort, etc
2. Have a 1st in 2015 plus whatever you get for a Gryz or Forbort or Ullmark/Debrusk if the absolute right deal came along.
3. Fair point
4. Lohrei, Beecher, Lysell, Poitras, Harrison, Bussi, are decent prospects, Bussi being obviously older but looks like he could be NHL ready.

Again, all fair points you have, I totally get your view, I just feel that if they can land an impact player without overpaying and using the assets mentioned above, they do so. Not much bottom 6 tinkering really needed, that's where they have the logjam in my opinion
Prospects are not ready, I am not sure I would hang my hat on them stepping up and taking over a roster spot at this time. Beecher is probably able to play now, but I think Monty has a issue with his game. If it would help to complete a deal that betters this team bye moving any of them I would do it.Gryz is a must to be moved need the cap room, Ullmark, should have been moved at the start of the season, not sure now is the time. DeBrusk should only be moved if a replacement is coming this way.

Yeah I mean that'd be the best defense is the league, it's 5 top four defenseman, maybe 6 if Lohrei takes a leap like we're hoping. Definitely a bit of a pipe dream though.
Loheri is not a NHL ready, sorry to piss in all the Loheri, fan club Cheerios....

Wow. So that would be roughly 124th in scoring out of roughly 190 top six players. Almost bottom third production. Don't want to see Jake go but he is what he is at this point. A top six 200 foot player that plays PP and PK. Not sure I would go much more than 5.5/6 average. That's me though

Honest question as I don't watch the Canucks much. On Boston, could Zadorov fit with McAvoy on the top pairing? Seeing he may be on the move again for a bigger move. Nucks going all on
