I would like the Bruins to add some toughness with Lucic gone but can we please stop pretending no one will lay a finger on any of our players if/when we do. Having a tough team never stopped Savard, Bergeron, Horton, or Eriksson(twice)from receiving severe concussions from far and away dirtier hits than anything we’ve seen over the last 5+ years.
100% - I don't think anyone is arguing this.

Questionable hits will always happen, but being able to hold the other team accountable is also an aspect here. I'd like to have a few soldiers who would respond to these plays and give it right back. You can hit Pastrnak and Marchand all you want, but your starts will get it too. The Bruins simply don't do that.

Yes, but he's not an initiator.
The other team was initiating it.

For one I just think that crosscheck was a bit overblown, for sure worth 2 mins but thought it was pretty soft.

Personally, I think overreacting to every single aspect of physical play against our team is really something.

Like every time our guy takes a body check isn't targeting a player, it's a part of the game....again I'm cool with getting some physicality but somewhere we went from just wanting to not be physically overpowered to complaining about every hit thrown
I don't agree with this, but that's fine. If you can't see that the Bruins have been severely lacking push back over the past few seasons I don't know what to tell you.

I'm agreeing they can get some more physicality?

But after every game to read "_______ was targeted" because they got hit is so soft.
It's hockey, they are grown men, part of the game is taking hits, no need to overreact everytime Mac or Pasta gets touched

I don't think you'd get much of this if the Bruins would actually give it back here and there. I'm just questioning it, that's all. Glad they won last night at the end of the night, but that first period was embarrassing to watch.

Again, had McAvoy not cheapshotted OEL, is Florida coming out half as hard with the physicality in game 18?

For what it's worth that crosscheck was only worth a 2 min penalty IMO and everyone on the ice came after the guy right afterwards, did they not?
I was going to say the same as Bridges 31 That Marchand just looked at the ref with his hands up waiting for the call. (made me think of the old habs games)

Does matter, to me it was pure intent. Mason got 5 and a game with this one last night.
Josh Manson Ejected for Cross Check to Face of Brock Boeser

Yakov Trenin would be ideal, he plays that tenacious style the Bruins like, very physical and good enough defensively to play against the other team's top forwards. So he probably ends up in Tampa.
He’s perfect. Could even put him with Debrusk and Poitras on the third line and shouldn’t cost as much as other targets.

Frederic-Zacha-Pasta
Marchand-Coyle-JVR
Trenin-Poitras-Debrusk
Lauko-Beecher-Geekie

A little size and/or toughness on every line. Shuffle in game as needed.

Much better suggestion than McEwan, I personally see Shattenkirks spot as one to look to add some size, although RD are already hard to come by.

The issue is that you need a puck mover next to forbort.

How can you blame McAvoy for Poitras getting cross checked in the face? Regardless you protect your teammates and they did not. Lots of bottom 9 guys can find a new home for some toughness that can play. I include Frederic in this now as well.

I mean... like... I guess they surrounded him? If that's a response, I'd hate to see when they don't.

Again, downplaying the lack of response is really something. It's only going to keep happening.
They called him names too.:sarcasm:

They did not respond to the physical play all night. Again they won and I give credit for that but last night was not a winning formula long term.

Oh please, if Tkachuk headshotted our guy you would literally be saying we should have respond by going after Tkachuk as well as his teammates, so don't think you should act surprised when the other team responds the same way after McAvoy throws a dirty one. It's the game...a guy throws a dirty headshot and gets kicked out you know for sure next game they are bringing it all physically. As a fan base once used to say...don't poke the bear.

Just my opinion of course, but to me it looked like Lundell hit him in the body first then as he pushed through it came up to his chin where as Boeser was directly hit. That's why I think they are different
That's what happened

I'm not, the Panthers responded appropriately and I have no problem at all with how Florida played. I have a problem with Boston not responding

So next game Boston should come out physically, no? I saw McAvoy take an elbow as well as get hit late.

I saw Poitras get decked with a crosscheck too. Regardless of if it was at his chest and rode up. It was pretty dirty.

Well there you go, you asked how Mac was responsible for that crosscheck and you already had your answer.

Well, once again, if it wasn't glaring enough during the first period of last nights game that they absolutely need a physical presence up front, I don't know what to tell you. They won the game, that was awesome, but we have to look at the bigger picture here.

McAvoy was targeted, whacked, and elbowed in the head and hit about 3-4 seconds late - Zero response.

Poitras got absolutely clobbered with a crosscheck to the head - Zero response.

Pastrnak was targeted - Zero response.

Forbort dropped the gloves in the second and did fairly well against a pretty tough dude. Hats off to him for stepping up there. Once he did that, it seemed like the temperature changed quite a bit.

Can someone tell me what the f*** Trent Frederic was doing? Zero excuse not to assert yourself in a game like that. Instead it looked like he was on a Sunday skate.
He was pretty good, I thought.

Fair enough. Bottom line Bruins still need players who will respond and push back. At forward and D

Nick Cousins had them intimidated last night. Nick Cousins. That's unacceptable

To break out of the physicality talk cycle - if Edmonton continues their fall and picks in the top 10, in the offseason:

Would you trade Ullmark for that pick, assuming he'll waive his NTC?

Would Edmonton be desperate enough to trade that pick for Ullmark or would there need to be an add?

Think we've got a wildly different definition of intimidation.
