Yeah what @PlayMakers said. Ideal world (and not unrealistic) Lauko sticks and you still have both Steen and MacEwan as options.

And to be clear, I LOVE Steen. I don't consider MacEwan to be an upgrade. But the big guy brings an element I think we miss when it's not there and are thankful to have when it's around.

I also think he's a better player than you give him credit for and maybe could learn a thing or two about being a net-front presence from JVR. A small weapon to add to his arsenal to ensure that fourth line doesn't miss a beat.
He’s 27 years old. He’s one of the worst players in the NHL.

Really happy with where this team is at TG!

Probably the most obvious take ever, but it’s still true.

Given that, I don’t think there is anything wrong with wishing they played with a bit more jam. Not because I want them unnecessarily throwing down 3x a game, but for a few reasons:

1. Even if it only prevents one player from running one Bruin….it prevents one Bruin from getting run.

2. Not unlike the theory that says, the more you’re in the offensive zone, the less you need to worry about defense…..I’m a believer in the theory that if you’re the one throwing the big hits and initiating the physical/chippy play, then its on the other team to respond…..hopefully at the expense of them focusing on ”playing their game “.

3. There’s a reason that revenge movies, books, songs exist. If a Bruin is cheap shotted/roughed up, I want to see retribution. Not dirty hits or at the expense of the team, but just at the appropriate level for an NHL team.

Again, I’m not asking for the return of the Troy Crowder’s or Scott Parker’s of the world…..I don’t want useless plugs. I just want one or two guys who have aggression embedded in their DNA, who can also play the game.

I like Mathieu Olivier's game in Columbus. Guy plays with some serious jam. Was watching him the other night.

Pretty decent skater, still fairly young, tough as nails. Could be a good 4th line option there too. Guy absolutely brings it. Teammates love the guy, too.

Don't hate the idea of Olivier if you get him dirt cheap. His dzone starts per 60 last season are similar to what beecher does for us now, so not forcing a square peg into a round hole or anything. Probably a better guy to have in the 4th line rotation then Brown at least.

Yep. Watched him last year a bit, thought he was pretty decent. Showed decent hands, obvious nose for the net and hits everything in sight. Dropped the gloves with some legit HW's too and didn't embarrass himself.

He's been putting up around average defensive results on an awful jackets, so put him in the bruins system and he might be a selke candidate lol.

In all seriousness he seems like he'd be a tougher but less offensively inclined version of Greer, which idk is a tradeoff you can make with an offensive blackhole like Nosek at 4C, but with Beecher there I'm fine with it.

At the end of the day the Bruins need toughness up front, if he scores a goal or two less than Greer I'll accept that trade off.

Well, once again, if it wasn't glaring enough during the first period of last nights game that they absolutely need a physical presence up front, I don't know what to tell you. They won the game, that was awesome, but we have to look at the bigger picture here.

McAvoy was targeted, whacked, and elbowed in the head and hit about 3-4 seconds late - Zero response.

Poitras got absolutely clobbered with a crosscheck to the head - Zero response.

Pastrnak was targeted - Zero response.

Forbort dropped the gloves in the second and did fairly well against a pretty tough dude. Hats off to him for stepping up there. Once he did that, it seemed like the temperature changed quite a bit.

Can someone tell me what the f*** Trent Frederic was doing? Zero excuse not to assert yourself in a game like that. Instead it looked like he was on a Sunday skate.
I agree with the need for getting some more physicality in the lineup, however you reap what you sow - McAvoy put a target on himself and the team with that hit he threw in their last meeting, so I'm not sure you can call it a lack of response as much as taking their lumps for the dirty play.

What about your rookie getting smashed in the head with a crosscheck after the whistle?

Again, had McAvoy not cheapshotted OEL, is Florida coming out half as hard with the physicality in game 18?

For what it's worth that crosscheck was only worth a 2 min penalty IMO and everyone on the ice came after the guy right afterwards, did they not?

I mean... like... I guess they surrounded him? If that's a response, I'd hate to see when they don't.

Again, downplaying the lack of response is really something. It's only going to keep happening.

Personally, I thought it was worth 5, and probably would have gotten it if Poitras had milked it. But I don't think he's the type. He pops back up after every hit he takes.

Manson had a similar cross check last night, that, to me didn’t look as bad as the one Poitras took and he got a game.

i feel like you just described Lauko
Lauko isn't an enforcer like Lucic though.

He's more like Coyle, someone who can play the physical game if needed. That's why I think if the Bruins had a bottom 6F and top 6F that were hammers, the rest of the lineup may feel more comfortable laying hits more.

I feel like they could have used it last night, no?

I would like the Bruins to add some toughness with Lucic gone but can we please stop pretending no one will lay a finger on any of our players if/when we do. Having a tough team never stopped Savard, Bergeron, Horton, or Eriksson(twice)from receiving severe concussions from far and away dirtier hits than anything we’ve seen over the last 5+ years.

For one I just think that crosscheck was a bit overblown, for sure worth 2 mins but thought it was pretty soft.

Personally, I think overreacting to every single aspect of physical play against our team is really something.

Like every time our guy takes a body check isn't targeting a player, it's a part of the game....again I'm cool with getting some physicality but somewhere we went from just wanting to not be physically overpowered to complaining about every hit thrown

Nope they didn’t. No one went after Lundell. As soon as the cross check happened Marchand turned to the refs to complain instead.
