First, shoutout to you for putting this together.

Second, I think Jack Roslovic could be a sneaky buy-low candidate. He has all the talent but theres just something about CBJ where offense goes to die. They tried him at center last year and it didn't work. This year he's on IR for a couple weeks.

He just seems like a guy that needs a change of scenery and I don't think it would really cost a lot

You may be able to pry something decent from CBJ if they continue to go down the drain.

Jarmo is fighting to keep his job. Desperation can make GM's do unwise things.

Many foolish people ragged on KMiller when he was here. Same with Ferrence.

Both had compete and toughness levels that were extraordinary.

When I at what improvements would increase odds in playoffs, replacing Forbert is way down the list.

is he perfect? No. But he‘s a #6 dman for God’s sake. Show me a team that team that didn’t win it all for the simple reason their #6 dman wasn’t perfect and I’ll show you a unicorn.

Where? Where's the unicorn?

Lindgren was the guy. Unfortunately we moved him for Nash. Went for it and he got hurt. Healthy Nash on that team was a game changer IMO. Shit happens though.

That deal was a prime example of wishful thinking and terrible judgement.

Even *I* knew Nash was one concussion away from the end, and that's what happened.

Of all the bad trades and acquisitions under Sweeney, this is among his worst.

Whose fault is that? Lauzon looking like a player these days. Sweeney didn’t protect him. Why isn’t Lindgren here.
Big swings for finesse that never panned out.
Senyshyn (1st round)
JFK (2nd round)
Vaakaneinen (1st round)
Studnicka (2nd round)
Axel Anderson (2nd round)

Conversely folks are up in arms whenever he takes a Frederic or a Beecher instead of rolling the die on a skilled guy like DeBrincat. No GM on the history of hockey nails every pick. I don’t think the mix of kinda guys they take has been off, TBH.

I was so on board with this trade. I think I was seduced by Nash highlight reels and wanted to believe.

Was a tough one, for sure. All we needed was him to make it through one playoff run. Ughhhhh.

Understandable but I didn't like it from the beginning, for the reason mentioned. I think Nash had three goals and was finished half way through the season or prior. That deal still makes me mad.

On February 25, 2018, one day before the trade deadline, Nash was traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, prospect Ryan Lindgren, a 2018 first-round pick (which became Jacob Bernard-Docker), and a 2019 seventh-round pick (which became Massimo Rizzo).[39]

It's also crazy to think how good of a position they are in the offseason. They have roughly 27m in cap sapce. If they move Ullmark and add Bussi for an extra 4m they could get

E. Lindholm 8m
Hanifin 7m
Swayman 6m
Debrusk 5m

With roughly 5m to add depth. You can also add Lohrei and Lysell to the mix. I think some of those numbers might be a little generous but they're close. It's a huge offseason for Sweeney.

Because I'm bored and my wife is away and I have nothing on my agenda LOL, I took the time to make a list of all the pending free agents on losing teams; these are possibly the only real targets outside of a 'real' hockey trade moving a guy for a guy. Some interesting names on the list below; not sure what they would cost, but I think a few of them could address our needs. Some of these teams are on the bubble; so, they might not be ready to make a move yet anyway (I included Montreal, but doubtful they make a trade with us)

Short of buying out Tavares, which I don‘t know enough about, as to whether or not it would make sense…I can’t see how they can pay:

Matthews 11.6
Tavares 11
Marner 10.9
Rielly 7.5
and then Nylander whatever he’s worth…..likely 11 ish.

Even if he took 10, that’s like 50 million for 5 guys….leaving 30 million for the remaining 15/16.

Something has gotta give, you’d think.
Matthews will be making 13,250,000 on the new deal. Love it.

Nash had 21 goals in his last season combined between the Rangers and the Bruins. He got concussed right before the playoffs but came in to play all 12 playoff games. That was it for his career though.

Just have to steer clear of feeling the pressure to spend the money if top options aren’t available and coming home with a Backes.

Which is why the argument to go grab Hanifin or Lindholm or whomever your target is at the TDL instead of waiting has some merit.

Really?

You're right. I thought he was done long before the playoffs.

He had 18 with NYR and three with the B's.

I go to the Sharks for Kunin and Burroughs or Ducks for Carrick and Lyubushkin

Sharks right defense is actually looking a little bit clogged. They have Benning, Addison and Emberson as well. I wonder if they would consider moving one and question if they would even qualify Kunin at 3 million.

No big fish this TDL but try to round out the edges of this roster with some tougher players is my path.
Love both of them, Burroughs is signed for another 2 years at just over a million and Kunin is a guy that can play anywhere in your bottom 9 forwards, plays a tough simple game but if he stays healthy looks like he could be a 15 or 20 goal player.

San Jose I am sure is going to be selling. Both would be great additions here.

If they make that deal with Anaheim I would try to pry Max Jones from them as well. Lauko-Beecher-Carrick would be a huge pain to play against. Jones can fit in the top 9

Possibly add Merkulov and Farinacci as well. Lots of options available

Agreed. Florida drafted none of those guys. Lots of ways to add that element when the rolls of the dice on the draft don’t turn into top 6 talent.
Agreed. I’d be okay with half of the 2011 teams grit factor. I’d gladly move Grzelcyk for space to trade for a Ference/ Seidenberg/ Boychuk/ Miller/ McQuaid type. Greg Campbell would get his ass kicked 9 out of 10 fights but that guy finished his shift on a broken leg. We don’t need goons but get me a few guys with Greg Campbells heart & Ference’s attitude.
