That'd mean that as of now we have 26mil in cap space to work with this summer, with the obvious caveat that Debrusk and Swayman need new deals. But regardless of that, they should still have the cap space to make some really noteable additions this summer, especially if they move Ullmark and commit to Sway as the starter.

Personally, Sam Reinhart is still my #1 guy. I haven't seen much buzz about the Panthers trying to get an extension done with him and he'd be the perfect guy to put next to Poitras. He's an excellent finisher that's also great defensively, can't ask for much more then that next to a young playmaker. Can also pivot to center if you wanna try moving Zacha back to the wing or something.

Beyond that I think we also probably need to find a top 4 LHD so that you don't go into the season NEEDING Lohrei to be a full time top pair guy next to McAvoy. Hanifin will probably be out of our price range, but I was looking at some names and Brady Skjei could be a good guy to target, won't get the AAV or term that a guy like Hanifin will but he's still a bonafide top 4 defenseman.

Reinhart is leading the Panthers in scoring by a lot. He's also tied for 2nd in the league in goals. Thinking Florida is going to re-sign him.

I know Reinhart scores half his goals on the PP. Would want to make sure that he would fit in on Boston’s PP or risk it being something regrettable.

Believe he plays the bumper for them, and I think out PP is seriously missing that threat since no one seems comfortable with a Zacha there as a lefty. Think it would work well.

Unfortunately as I look more into it, I think there's very little chance he actually hits UFA. Florida has like 30 mil in cap space this summer and like 10 total guys signed to the roster. They're probably gonna lose some guys, but I'd be shocked if Reinhart was one of them.

They didn't?

Vladislav Namestnikov - Drafted 2011, had 20G/44PTS in 62GP before Tampa traded him. His first two full years in the NHL he played at a 33pt pace. Former first round and showed potential just like DeBrusk, but he was a few years older.
This may be the mother of all understatements. DeBrusk was in his rookie season, Namestniknov in his 4th at 25. One year younger than Ryan Spooner with similar numbers.

Brett Howden - Drafted 2016 in the 1st round. Put up 156pt in the WHL over 107gp after being drafted. Was a PPG player at the U-20's. Looked every bit the guy to be a top 6 center in the future.
Rangers fans called Howden a B tier prospect at the time which was too harsh but he wasn't DeBrusk. Late 1st in a draft that wasn't as strong, projected as a "middle six" (3rd line) center, a bit like Beecher. By the time of the trade he hadn't had that breakout season post draft like Sam Steel.

The Rangers would've taken DeBrusk over the two of them. They tried to.

I think this team's record is better than it should be, mostly because our goaltending and defense combined are best in the league.
I've never understood this way of thinking. If good goaltending and defence are contributing to wins, then the resultant record simply is what it "should be" - exactly because of that.

If a team had four 60-goal-scorers and was 20-2-1, would you say their record is "better than it should be" because they have so many prolific goal-scorers?

Obviously, an 82-game sample size may tell a different story – for various reasons – but with a decent number of games under their belts against various quality teams, a team's record is what it is, period. It can't be better or worse that it should be. It IS what it should be. You're just projecting your own expectations on it.

I wasn't a fan of the benching but here's the inside scoop from Beecher about what happened. I like the kids attitude.

“I had a meeting with Monty,” Beecher told the Boston’s Herald Steve Conroy. “He just kind of called me in and asked me how I thought I’d been playing. And I just said there really hasn’t been anything too fantastic going on, not playing the game fast enough. And he just said that I needed to be harder to play against, more detailed, more physical, just playing a more well-rounded game. I wasn’t too shocked at the end of the day. I hadn’t been playing up to the standards they have for me and the standards I have for myself. Obviously, I want to be better and these guys deserve my best.

Seeler is solid. I think he'd be a worthy depth pickup for the playoffs.

That is a winner’s attitude right there. Fantastic

I would jump at Duhaime. I would also be happy to bring in Seeler. Maroon five years ago, yes.
All four are interesting options, but Sweeney probably wouldn’t like the physicality. He obviously places no value on that part of a players skill set.

That’s about, what 70-75% of what JDB would want, if they wanted to keep him?

I have no idea what his price/market is going to be. I think we really have to wait out the year with him just because of how streaky he can be.

4 goals/ 6assists /10 points in 23 games is not ideal for a top 6 winger who is also getting roughly a minute and a half per game on the power play.

It will be interesting to see what the Bruins do with him because there were certainly high expectations and he’s falling well short of those so far

Agreed. I’d be okay with half of the 2011 teams grit factor. I’d gladly move Grzelcyk for space to trade for a Ference/ Seidenberg/ Boychuk/ Miller/ McQuaid type. Greg Campbell would get his ass kicked 9 out of 10 fights but that guy finished his shift on a broken leg. We don’t need goons but get me a few guys with Greg Campbells heart & Ference’s attitude.
I’d be ok with 2011 chicken prices

Like tha NFL it’s a different game because of different types of players dictated by rule chsnges

I didn’t enjoy Greg Campbell fighting I can’t even imagine what his mother thought

Hopefully he’s here Saturday 16th and isn’t slurring his words

I loved the 2011 and those 70 teams but I cringed watching Campbell fight
