Joshua has had two very good years back to back, you don't sign him as a top 6 wing but as a third line winger he should give you between 15-20 goal 35ish points with a very physical game. A line of Joshua-Coyle-Frederic should produce goals and hits and with it's size be able to control the puck on the offensive zone.
I would just be a bit weary of the price/term. A physical guy who is showing some offensive upside is going to be (over)paid handsomely this offseason...but don't get me wrong I do like the suggestion, I just think he's a guy I'd beware of overpaying

Jake is more talented, skilled on pk , and has more speed

Bertuzzi works harder

hard to say what ends you with more meat n potatoes in the end

but if you could get bertuzzi for 5.5 and jake won't accept any less than 6, that would be a tough choice for sure
I think Bertuzzi at 5.5 is a worse deal then Jake at 6. Jake is like 1.5 years younger, significantly better defensively, can PK, and the 2 have essentially the exact same scoring output (same amount of assists, Jake has one more goal). Plus I think one thing the 43-18-88 line is proving is that you don't need another playmaker on the line with Zacha and Pasta, the two man game between those is incredibly effective. All you need is someone that's good defensively and on the forecheck that can support them, and Jake is the better fit for that.

If it's me I keep Debrusk and then staple him to that line next year.

Bertuzzi works harder????? Maybe in the offensive zone. Absolutely not once you leave the offensive zone

Jake DeBrusk 18-21-39 +7 $4 mil
Trent Frederic 18-21-39 +8 $2.3 mil
van Riemsdyk 11-27-38 +9 $1 mil
Morgan Geekie 16-21 -37 +6 $2 mil
Danton Heinen 15-17-32 +12 $775,000

Looks like one guy hasn't earned his money so far.

Or 4 guys have earned more than they have been paid. 39 points, great 200 foot game, penalty killing. He has certainly earned 4 million. I get that there is a a question about whether he is worth 6 or 7 million, but for 4 million Jake has absolutely 100% earned his money this year

Yeah it's this

I'm not ok with Jake at 7m. But he's playing at a 4m level.

You are sparking arguments with people about how it’s negative to call a 60 goal scorer “shoot first”

So yes it is outrageous.
It seemed more like a discussion to me. On a discussion board. Btw other than the outrage comments I think you’ve made good points in that discussion. I feel like I understand both sides and I do see this as semantics.

He's playing above 4mil level. I know some people here don't like to hear it but that 63-13-74 line gets VERY hard deployment as this teams shutdown line. Guys that can handle that kind of defensive workload and still give you around 20 goals on the season don't cost 4mil. For reference, Marcus Foligno signed a 4x4mil extension and he averages about 10 goals a year and grades out similarly defensively.

Something in the 5.5-6mil range with term fro Jake is fair for both side, and will give him the stability he seems to want/need. If he thinks he can get way more then that on the market then let him try.

One question mark would have been sufficient

Im a Jake supporter, but he definitely floats at times, he does what he's asked in the defensive zone which is why i said he has more skill than bertuzzi, but they're forwards after all. I would love it if Jake gave the offensive relentless effort that Bertuzzi does.

Yeah, I would bite the bullet and offer 5.5x8. I don't think he'd accept it though.

I guess you could look at it that way.

But, I would disagree with the "great" 200-foot game.

I think when you look around the league, DeBrusk is currently paid appropriately. Here on this team, we have some guys who are playing above their contract which is what happens in Boston for one reason or another.

Bert was a nice fit with Pastrnak and that to me plays more then Debrusk on one side of the puck .That said Jake is quicker and plays pk and more of a 200ft player.I think you pick Jake if given choice ( might get neither) because he never signed with Leafs :laugh:Seriously though it be nice to lock up 1 of them.

Personally I think bertuzzi works hard in all zones. I think the misconception is due to him sometimes making extremely dumb plays like the bad pass in the playoffs near the front of the net that resulted in a panthers goal.

To me it’s not a matter of effort/working hard, it’s whether he makes the correct/intelligent play.

A rare agreement from me :sarcasm:

The real knock on Bertuzzi is definitely poor decision making inside the Dzone, lots of no look, blind passes last playoffs just insider our own end that drove me nuts. But I agree he does have the effort still.

This is it for me too. Guy grinds offensively, and has been rewarded lately with the Leafs. He's been great, actually.

So much for the report or "rumor" that he wanted to stay in the Northeast lol

Overall it just shows how Sweeney has scored some amazing values.
