The issue is one of semantics. "Shoot first" tends to carry a negative connotation - think Mike Hoffman, or Ovi, or Kyle Connor. Pasta would have been in that bucket for several years. You wouldn't call Nathan Mackinnon or Jack Eichel or Nikita Kucherov a "shoot first" player, yet they're top 10 in the league in shots/G.
Pasta now is one of the best playmaking wings in the league, and is adding elements of a power forward. He's no longer a "shoot first" player - he's become a more complete, all around player.
