Drury has been very replaceable in the big leagues so far and reportedly requested a trade and I think we could get an asset for him with no drop off to Pono. But I’m also higher on Pono and lower on Drury than most.
of the "top 6 or bust" guys he definitely seemed the most ready of the group to actually be able to do something when called up. Would be nice to see him still pan out to an extent with how his prior 3 seasons went. The trade request likely came before he made the roster at the end of the year. This year as the full-time 4C will be the most telling.
As for the prospects tournament, the most exciting thing is Suzuki looking like he may take a big step this year. I don't expect him to be a full-time NHLer this season, but I could certainly see him as the top call-up.

no chance. Not saying that he can't become a good middle 6 guy if he develops a two-way game, but the Nino role, guy just isn't built for that. I mean physically. Ryan's a 6'0/175 lb guy, Nino is a 6'2/220lb fire hydrant with decent wheels. I'd have more faith in Pono developing to be that kind of guy despite being shorter because he's built more like Nino physically.Considering the fact that we're going to be loaded for years to come, I'd say top-9 or bust. If Suzuki can develop a sounder defensive game, perhaps he can turn into a guy who can play the Nino role and who can add offensive punch to Staal's line.
32 Thoughts: What's next for the Blue Jackets?
15. The NHL and AHL are trying to sort out Carolina’s affiliate issue. Following a divorce with the Chicago Wolves, the Hurricanes are sprinkling prospects around the hockey world. “It’s not a sustainable situation going forward,” NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said last week. “Obviously, it’s going to be the reality this year and Carolina’s going to have to deal with it. But it’s not a status quo we can allow to continue.”
In August, Carolina offered to purchase/add a 33rd franchise. The AHL’s Executive Committee met a couple times to consider it, and recommended the Hurricanes be allowed to address the full Board of Governors in October. That way, every team will understand everything there is to know. There are some adamantly against the idea of an NHL/AHL imbalance. Also: the AHL’s two most recent adds — Henderson (Las Vegas) and Coachella Valley (Seattle) had an expansion fee above $10M. Will Carolina be willing to go there?
Jacksonville or Orlando? A little far away from everyone but so are the Checkers. Or one of the "potential" NHL locations like Salt Lake City or Atlanta to see how they do for a few years? Or bring back Houston Aeros who were doing really well and then had to end things because of an arena owner use dispute or whatever? If some being adamantly against the imbalance didn't stop this from happening (which is its own kind of imbalance), then it shouldn't be a factor adding a 33rd team. Also, I heard many times this year that Coachella and Henderson were printing money as far as the AHL level is concerned. It's worth thinking about whether or not there is another city out there (preferably one that is new and untapped like those) that can be added and have that kind of impact.

This is absolutely outrageous that this situation has been allowed to happen. Surely Bettman must have some levers he could have pulled to bring Chicago to heel. Or better yet the Canes shouldn't have stupidly dropped the Checkers.32 Thoughts: What's next for the Blue Jackets?

The Checkers shouldn't have tried to strong arm the Canes into a ridiculous financial situation where the Canes had to pay all the expenses but Kahn got to keep all the profits. I don't blame the Canes at all for telling them to f*** off, they absolutely overplayed their hand. This is absolutely outrageous that this situation has been allowed to happen. My sense is that camp will shake a lot of these things out. If Ponomaryev is ready, then Drury is likely a piece packaged with a D-man for additional offensive help. Also, if Tuevo has a shitty camp, Ryan Suzuki has nearly the same game with a bit more inclination to shoot the puck while being a little less defensively responsible. During the tournament, Suzuki didn't shy away from his defensive responsibilities.I’m not putting much stock into this tournament, more how he looked in the A last year, just putting my thoughts here since it’s relevant.

Chicago is too big of a market and the team makes too much money for that. The Checkers shouldn't have tried to strong arm the Canes into a ridiculous financial situation where the Canes had to pay all the expenses but Kahn got to keep all the profits. The Wolves, I don't know how the AHL allows that to happen. If you're a developmental league for the NHL, your priority should be to develop NHL talent. If you have one AHL team going rogue and pissing off franchise after franchise with not wanting to play their prospects, then kick their asses out and bring in a team that will.
the IceGators back in the old ECHL days were extremely popular. That said I'd think Dundon would be looking more at NC/SC with a possibility of Norfolk VA if he were to be allowed to buy a team.Theres some large cities in Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and SC that could support a team. Those would be places I would look first. If Im not mistaken New Orleans had an Arena football team that despite the league being unprofitable did pretty well attendance wise.
Is that his age? Or the number of goals @NotOpie predicted he’d score in a season?Chris Terry is 34……
Wow, Kinkaid sure looks good for his age. And I’m pretty confident in that statement without ever laying eyes on him.I predict that in a couple of years, Chicago will be the most hated team in the AHL by pretty much every affiliate / fan. They'll load their team with aging players who will be experienced enough to win regularly, but also will eventually tend to goon it up.
Their current roster. 3 skaters under 25.

DEFENSEMEN: Tory Dello (26), Matt Donovan (33), Tyson Feist(22), Alex Green (25), Owen Headrick (26), Austin Strand (26), Mitchell Vande Sompel (26),
GOALTENDERS: Keith Kinkaid (340, Adam Scheel (24).
Could make their own league and call it the AAAAHL.Personally, I wonder if it wouldn't be beneficial to have several more independent AHL teams. They could potentially be an alternative to playing in Europe/Russia.
