I think it’s a good idea to have a vet / 30yr old euro goalie with experience and that is not NHL bound i.e. someone to help Dobes.

One thing that was beneficial to Primeau when he first turned pro was that he came in and had someone like Charlie Lindgren. So his first year, they were alternating. They didn't throw Primeau in the deep end right off the bat. Slowly, slowly, he was getting the net more often. And in his second year, he was basically the #1 goalie.

And even the last two years, with Primeau being the clear cut #1 goalie in Laval, he still had a vet goalie in Poulin to share the net with.

Unfortunately for Dobes, it was basically baptism by fire. His partner was also young and was also on the same boat. We all saw right away that this 2 young goalie plan wasn't going to work. And it was mainly not going to work for Dobes. We couldn't care less about Mann. Thankfully, Dobes has been hot lately.

We'll see how Kaskisuo will do during his PTO. But I'm happy they went and got him.

He is euro, but he spent most of his College and pro life in North America. He is used to North American rinks' size and hockey style.. Nothing to lose and it could really help Dobes.

What has happened to Roy? He started season pretty good. Playing with injury or something?

There was word that he wasn't 100%. But it could also be a case of a rookie going through the ups and downs of pro hockey. After his hot start, his production pretty much stopped. That could also be that other teams started to focus on him more. And unlike the Q, who had teams focusing on him also, now he's got players with experience game planning against him.

But his production has started to get going the last few games again. He has 5 pts in his last 6 games.

Seems like Farrell has come on lately while Roy is still working his way through his first big slump in like 3 years of hockey.

both have the same issues, you can see that they just need to be one step faster, one bit stronger, the IQ and skill is of course there but they just need to keep working on adding getting quicker, stronger. In the past I liked Farrell more because he's got more bite to his game despite being small as say unlike Caufield he will get in your face to stick up for teammates.

Roy I started to favor a little more due to his shot is just sick, I like Farrell's but Roy can really shoot it even if he prefers to pass it as right now you can see he doesn't have the confidence as it's often as soon as he gets the puck he's quickly looking to get rid of it. Getting stronger will help both but they have time and I'm glad to see at least so far they haven't been rushed.

Farrell has impresssive credentials. he played on the US National under 17 team at 15 years of age, as well as the US under 18 at 16 years old (both with Caufield!) He is a fiesty player and is tenacious.
“He has some compete in him,” Houle said. “He likes to be first on pucks and likes to delay."
Strength will be his biggest challenge, but competes, is smart (got a 4 yr Harvard degree in three years) and has tremendous hockey IQ. Will that be enough? Hope so!

I've seen a good bit of him by now and there's a lot to like and I do think he will be an NHLer at some point and likely a very solid one in time although he's got work to do when you have someone so smart and skilled that's willing to consistently work hard, that's a lot to work with.

But the speed imo is his biggest challenge, as the size might not change too much and he may even have put on too much weight too quickly. Hopefully this off-season now that he will have a much better idea of what to do and work on as he's smart so I think he will figure it out. Getting stronger, more explosive, should help his game a lot.

Marlies lost their 5th straight game last night. Laval is 4 pts behind them now. They're 4 pts behind Rochester, as well. And 5 pts behind Belleville.

All 3 of those teams have 1 game in hand on Laval. And then there is Utica, who sit last in the division with 24 pts (3 pts behind Laval), but have 3 games in hand.

Looks like the flu bug is running in the Laval locker room. Roy didn't practice the last two days because he's been sick. Kidney is not sick and will not join the team for this road trip. Roy, however, is traveling with the team.

Whats is going on here? Some people thought they were out of the playoff and that their season was done 1 month ago? They were blaming everyone... Some posters around here never learned... It's crazy.

The Rocket is now 2 points behind a playoff spot. The Marlies has one game in hand.

Going from winning 15% of your games to 85% is not a common occurrence. At the same time several teams in the division had massive collapses. Marlies have lost six in a row, probably due to losing their two best goalies because of the Leafs injuries.

Also consider that road trips play a big factor as other divisions are stronger than the North. Laval could very well fall down again when they start playing more top teams. They did 3-0 Syracuse but they also have been notably bad of late. But as I check I realize Laval does not have any stretches against top teams even going back to October...

Laval does have an advantage in that they ah last place Utica in the division five times this month and second to last in the league Manitoba twice. In fact Laval doesnt really play any games against the top teams for the rest of the year. They have a lot of games scheduled against Bridgeport who are dead last in the league.

No clue how they make the schedule but Laval only really plays abbotsford from the Pacific and Manitoba from the central. They play a lot of teams from the Atlantic but somehow dodge Hershey (two games total)and Providence (0 all season) mostly.

In fact, they play the aforementioned three of the bottom five teams about eleven more times this season. It will be embarrassing if they miss.
