Hershey Bears demolished Laval 7-1 tonight!!!! Yikes!!
Frankly, based on the flow of play, that should have been the score against Lehigh Valley. As I earlier posted, from this writer’s perspective, there is very little immediately available help in Laval.

To be fair, we have 6 NHL players injured so that doesn't help.

Agreed. But we have to be honest: this is a weak farm team and on the current roster, other than Roy and Mailloux, and perhaps to a lesser extent, Kidney, who can be realistically projected as a legitimate NHLer?

The problem are not really the kids. It's the lack of quality older AHL players to surround them. Starting with goalies where we badly lack a vet goalie to support Dobes. Like them or not, Belzile, Richard, Schuneman, Dello, Pierrick Dubé, Abandonnato, Teasdale, Dannick Martel and ??? Roy and now Stephens, were good AHL vets. Long term Injuries to Lias Andersson and Heineman did not help at all.

Not many AHL players are promoted each year by their own org at NHL level. The best youngsters don't spend much time down there if ever. In the last few seasons, Habs have promoted Ylonen, RHP, Primeau, Barron, Pezzetta and Struble. Others came up almost directly from Junior or College like Xhekaj, Harris, Guhle, Caufield, Slaf even if some of them have played few games at AHL level or should have.

I won’t disagree. But the bottom line is that watching the Lehigh Valley game, I didn’t see one player, young or old, that was playing that night, that I thought would be an improvement over who is now playing on the Canadiens.

Some took some glee out of the comeback win against the Phantoms and were optimistically talking about playoffs. Playoffs? We were outclassed in every phase of the game except the score. Without Dobes heroics and some very opportunistic scoring, the score would have been similar to the results last night.

As that Lehigh Valley commentator was so fondly saying: Laval is a bad team.

Obnoxious but true.

Should make it:
Heineman
Roy
Farrell
Struble
Dobes
Xhekaj :sarcasm:

Maybe:
Mailloux
Kidney
Trudeau

There's a chance:
Mysak
Simoneau

Darche'd:
Condotta

Well, that’a particularly optimistic viewpoint.

But my comment was very specific: I was commenting on the players that I was watching. Heinemann, Farrell and Struble weren’t playing. As for the others, some will make it as the Canadiens trade or others move our current roster players and roster spots open up.

But I stand by what I said: none of the players that I watched would be an upgrade over current roster players. In fact, they would be a markedly step down.

Kind of reiterating what @1909 said.

Plus our most notable prospects are pretty much all rookies.

I know you’re not big on Roy but still an impressive pro rookie year so far on the whole. Kidney’s coming on and he’s been pretty much an afterthought 6 months ago.

Mailloux’s D needs a lot of work but his numbers have been hugely impressive of late.

It’s question mark-y down there but the good thing is they got lots of time to improve and there’s high end potential in a few if they get their question marks sorted out.

It’s not drool worthy at the moment but there’s been good things shown by certain individuals

Should just be a move to get rid of Mann from the AHL roster and have Dobes partner with someone with experience.

Laval desperately needed a vet goalie. And we can't afford to be picky at this point. It's also about time Habs do something to bring in a goalie with more experience.

Last year in SHL, he put up a .879 SV% in 14 GP. Nothing to write home about. But the year before (playing with Heineman), he put up a .910 SV% in 46 GP.

Also his career in the AHL, he had an above .900 SV% more often than below it.

Definitely a little bit too late to salvage the season.. but certainly not too early to bring in support for Dobes.

'Cause they were gonna run into nights where they would have to play him back to back because Mann is unreliable and I don't think you wanna put some bad games on Dobes' record when he's fatigued on a back to back. Keep stacking those good games and keep him in advantageous positions for now.

If Kasimir pans out, that means Habs can trade one of the triplets in the NHL without taking an AHL vet goalie as return to help Dobes.

Might indicate that nobody wants to trade anything for goalies too. It's like teams are content with sucking in net.

That’s actually pretty cool! I used to watch his content on Youtube during the pandemic in Nashville — I don’t think I’ve ever stumbled upon more open day-to-day/day in the life NHL player stuff, I loved it. Looks like a great guy, if anything.

For those who don't know, Kaskisuo has a significant social media presence and a youtube channel on being a professional goalie.

Should be interesting to see his perspective of Laval during the season.

Interesting to see his VR warm-up, might be something that eventually makes to bigger leagues (obviously with a better setup than controllers taped to the blocker and glove ).

Hopefully he can turn things around for Laval, even though I don't think the main problem has been the goalies.

I think it’s a good idea to have a vet / 30yr old euro goalie with experience and that is not NHL bound i.e. someone to help Dobes.
