Fair, I suppose I should have said Offense oriented D. All 5 of our high end D prospects are know for offense and none save Minty is particularly known to be good defensively. I will give you its early to say none can play on the pk but from what we have seen so far its hard to say any would excel there. People complain about Folwer on the PK. What makes us think these kids have better tools than him to PK? As I said I can see Minty and Lacombe PK. Well see what the others can bring but I'm hesitant to rely on them in that role.

I'm confused with your comment. LaCombe developed his defense first in college and then his offense took off. It's difficult to judge who's our best defensive rookie since LaCombe is playing on the top-pairing and Minty is not. As for playing on the PK, LaCombe is a staple on the PK and our PK is ranked 14th in the league right now.

Mintyukov has speed, 4-way skating, and soaks up instructions quickly, with are good attributes for a PK'er. Anaheim is taking their time with him as a 19-year old pro and have him playing on the PP. With Drysdale and Zell eventually coming up, Minty's role on the PP might diminish and PK increase.

Hinds is a defensive D whose been playing on the PK in San Diego. Lots of people raving out his defensive play, especially on the PK.

That would leave RD Luneau. He's in a similar mold as Mintyukov.

Nice to read his coach really praise his skating because that was the biggest thing he needed to work on as a prospect
He legitimately looked like he was moving very well in the limited development camp video I watched. That combined with his size and heavy shot could make him an interesting project. Hopefully he plays some games in San Diego at the end of the season.

It's good to see for Colangelo, but I don't consider him an Anaheim prospect any more. Once college players reach their senior seasons, they're essentially free agents. The Ducks' only leverage is to promise to get him in some games before the end of the season to speed up his ELC clock.

I know that's a pessimist view of the situation, but after getting betrayed by Schultz, it's easier for me just to consider them gone. If they stay with the Ducks, it's a pleasant surprise. I hope Colangelo does - the Ducks desperately need forward talent throughout the lineup. He sounds like he could potentially be a middle-6 guy.

Love the praise, I was looking through Western Michigan alums though and there's not that much in the way of "pure shooters" to compare him to. Maybe Keith Jones? Joe Corvo if we're stretching the definition of a shooter, he had a bomb anyway.
Jamal Mayers is an alum and I came across this on hockey-reference:

Did anyone ever, EVER call Jamal Mayers "Jam Diggity"?

Two points I'd like to point out from this article:

1. Colangelo considered going pro after last season. I want to know more about that and who was involved about considering going pro as well as moving to another program? Were the Ducks involved in this? If so, then great job and probably had a handshake deal that he'd be signed after his senior season.

2. From the article, "As a byproduct of the Broncos’ style of play, the young forward has been shooting the puck at an impressive 20 percent clip, which is similar to his sophomore campaign."

I noticed he wasn't being used the same way in his junior year like his sophomore year. On other blogs, I read he wasn't with his same linemates from his sophomore season in his junior season. Dunno why he got shafted that way, but he was. Kinda glad he left Northeastern b/c of that shafting.

At Dev camp, he was one of the few who looked like he was on a mission. I do hope the Ducks get to sign him with the incentive of playing a couple of NHL games to burn a year off of his ELC. The development at Western Michigan is worth burning that year.

On a tangent, NCAA forward Kukkonen's sophomore year feels like Colangelo's junior year, getting shafted down the line. Maybe Kukkonen can also use the portal to move to another college... say Western Michigan?
