Prospect Update: Europe and NHL

- Sundsvik: Since Nov 13, he has scored 3 goals. His career high for goals in the SHL was 6 goals in 2020-21. He is currently tied for 3rd in goal scoring for Rogle. This is a nice surprise. Sundsvik is a 2020 draftee and is currently 22 years old.

- Buteyets: Has incrementally improved his Sv % and GAA. Last week: 0.914 Sv% and 2.51 GAA.

- Clara: He is back above .900!

- Mintyukov: Is currently tied for most assists by a rookie.

- LaCombe: He is struggling playing top pairing minutes. IMO, he is playing more aggressive offensively, but a forward or two aren't rotating or rotating fast enough. The team might be asking too much out of the rookie. It feels as though our D are the ones creating movement and our forwards feel like they're stagnate.

- Dostal: November hasn't been kind to the Oct rookie of the month. In his last three games, Dostal has allowed 19 goals. Maybe we should cool the thought of crowning Dostal as a starter and trading Gibson away.

- Suchanek: Helped the Gulls break a 13-game losing streak when he got called up from the ECHL! He was the first star of the game too.

- Regenda: Is the only double digit goal scorer for the team.

- Zellweger: Now is tied for 2nd in goal scoring for the team.
How did Perreault manage to be a +3 lol ?

I think he's been playing with Regenda recently. Regenda is one of our top scorers and he's a +1 rating, that helps out defensively b/c we're on the offensive end. And then sometimes Perreault is either the last man off the ice for his line or first one onto the ice for his line and gets off a long range shot that goes in.

I'd still trust @The Midnight Burrito assessment on Perreault, outside of his scoring, there's still much to be desired.

@Hockey Duckie I appreciate the effort you put in your prospect updates. One suggestion, put the goalies on their on sheet instead of having goals, assists and points there put wins, losses, draws etc. type of stuff. It would be more useful knowledge.

He's trying, he's been more of a hound on the forecheck lately and he can lift sticks from behind on the back check. He's certainly better than he was to start the year, but I'm not ready to he's more than a one-trick pony yet.

I might consider it. But since I track the prospects weekly (hopefully weekly), I can notice their play trend and share whether the goalie was having a good week, great week, or bad week via Sv% and GAA. Consistency is what I look for in goalie production.

I actually considered using W-L-OTLs when I first started doing this like two years ago, but the baseball in me keeps popping up, "you don't measure a pitcher's worth by wins and losses" because they only control one part of the game and have no control over run support. Wins and losses doesn't describe how a pitcher throws. Similarly, a goalie has no control over goal support, which has no bearing on the netminder's performance.

Case in point, Gibby only allowed 2 goals on 26 shots, a 0.923 Sv% in last night's loss to the Canucks. The owner of the highest Sv% this season is Aiden Hill with 0.933 Sv% and a 1.96 GAA over 13 games. Hill has 9 wins, 2 losses, and 2 OTL. With that reference, we can identify that Gibby had a good game last night and still lost. Anaheim only provided Gibby with one goal. The loss implies Gibby wasn't good last night instead of identifying the Ducks lack offense.

  • 2023-24 Duck netminders
    • Gibby
      • Record: 4-9-0
      • Sv%: 0.912
      • GAA: 2.64
    • Dostal
      • Record: 5-4-0
      • Sv%: 0.878
      • GAA: 4.30

The goalie production doesn't match up with the record production.

what's up with nesterenko? i noticed his numbers haven't been that great in SD
eye-test wise, he's one of their better forwards. He's involved in a lot of good things but can't convert it into production. I don't really have a great answer for it. He's often with Regenda and they work well together but Regenda isn't much of a playmaker so maybe he's (Regenda) kind of soaking up his line mates' good work without reciprocating?

Scouting has figured out Dostal. Now the coaching and player need to adjust
