Prospect Update, Nov 19: NCAA

Nov 19, NCAA.png

It was a dull weekend.

- RW Colangelo was scoreless in the weekends' two games.

- C Kukkonen just continued his downward spiral, going from -7 to a -10 rating. Guess this is what we would call a sophomore slump, or what Duck fans would call "Committing a Comtois".

Prospect Update, Nov 19: Europe and NHL

Nov 19, Europe.png

- Sundsvik scored 2 goals this past week, where he played 2 games!

- Buteyets feels like the definition of consistency... consistently good!

- Clara had a bounce back this week, creeping his way to 0.900 again.

Not a good week for all the rookies in the NHL as all of them earned negative ratings this past week and none of them gained a point in four games played. Even Dostal got tagged hard so hard he went from 0.910 to 0.893 in only one game played.

Prospect Update, Nov 19: AHL and ECHL

Nov 19, AHL ECHL.png

Gulls are on an 11-game losing streak: 0-8-3-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL)

- G Clang is still showing up to game despite the long losing streak. How is he still above 0.900 on an 11 game losing streak?!

- F King has been improving as a scoring and is now part of the top line of Nesterenko-Agozzino-King.

=== ECHL ===

- Suchanek is thriving.

- Alexander is struggling mightily. I thought he'd be a Stolarz clone since they're both 6'6. We need our goalie coach back from cancer.

Regenda and Agozzino are the Gulls' best forwards IMO. They both have the ability to tilt the ice. King is coming along very well, too. I think he'll be a good to very good career AHLer, dunno about his NHL upside. Guacher is becoming more visible but it seems like it'll be quite a process for him. Nesterenko looks very slick and is tenacious but can't ever seem to turn that into production. Pastujov is a complete empty sweater. He might be the Gulls' worst forward. I'd certainly put Caulfield and even Wiebe ahead of him.

On D, I'd say Hinds is solid. Nothing amazing about him but his positioning is decent, he's smart enough to stay inside of his guy most of the time, he has okay strength and he makes pretty simple passes. Like, his reach doesn't exceed his grasp. Hence, he's even while most other D are sporting huge minuses. Zellweger continues to learn the defensive side of things.

The Athletic are predicting who's gonna represent at the WJC-20 and at most, they cite three Duck defenders: Luneau, Warren, and Hot Rod. Also, a 2024 prospect that I'm keeping an eye on is RW Emil Hemming on team Finland.

Alexander looked so bad in camp, no surpise.

The Athletic is doing a two-part segment on ranking team drafting from 2007 to 2018. They use the 200-game threshold as part of their metric (which I shared in a different post, but here's the online pdf).

We won the Cup in 2007. In that 12-year span (2007 to 2018), the Ducks missed the playoffs only twice. Since we rarely are picking in the lottery slots, our success rate should be low based upon draft selections. Anaheim wasn't listed in the bottom half of the Athletic list, but are in the top-16 (which should debut tomorrow, the 24th?).

Anaheim isn't bad at drafting.

Anaheim ranks 3rd overall in drafting from 2007-2018, by the Athletic.

From 2016 to 2018, the Ducks went with an unbalanced draft trying to find forwards. In that 3-year draft span, the Ducks drafted two d-men: 2016, rd 3 Mahura and 2018, rd 6 Drew (made the switch over to forward). Also, the Ducks didn't a first round pick in 2017 due to the Eaves trade condition.

Crazy considering this is through 2018 and 2019 was when the drafting starting hitting big again.

I think it's because the author(s) want that 200 game threshold available. The 2019 draft only has four players hitting over the 200 NHL game mark, and they're all in the top-7 overall picks. That makes the 2019 and beyond a small sample to take into account.

Colangelo finished 1+1. Pitre finished with an assist.

Warren finished with a goal and was named second star of the game.

Warren has bumped his game up the the recent weeks. In tonight's game, he was a +4, highest on the team. I think MECH translates to hit in English, which means he also got 3 hits in the game, also the highest on the team.

Colangelo had a productive weekend after going scoreless last weekend. He had 1g + 2a in two games. That should put Colangelo into 1.00 ppg rate.
