Have to admit I do have a very hard time going through some of our forward selections over the last 2-3 years and seeing what we passed on.

Gaucher, although knowing what he brings but we passed on Yuorv (my wished pick), Snuggerud and Kulich. Yurov for me really hurts because he is what PV is looking for.

Same with Myatovic, passing on Cristall really hurts.

If we went dmen Mintyukov was always the guy I wanted. I just felt like he was the most well rounded of any dmen in the draft.

Honestly didn’t care for Korchinski at all… the one area of the game Korchinski excels at(offense) I always felt Mintyukov was bette r
Yeah and we already have Fowler, Korchinski is like a 6'3 version of him.
From what I saw Korchinski had no hits in his games played unlike Minty and Jiricek.

I’ll wait on the myatovic pick… it was off the board a bit but chances are PV didn’t want a guy like cristall anyway. It’s clear pv is building the team with a certain vision in mind

I think they talked about moving up but teams were asking too much (I’m guessing we were aiming at ritchie/musty), which is disappointing that we didn’t get them. I’d basically trade any 2 of our 2nds from that draft to get Ritchie or musty.

I like the gaucher pick, he checks, he forechecks, he agitates, he can pk and seems solid faceoff option…. Hell be an effective player at the nhl lvl.

Wasn’t a sexy pick, but I think once we’re back in the playoff he’s going to be one of those fan favorite types that come up big on pk, sets the energy on forecheck. Score timely goals and annoy the other teams star players.

I think we should get used to this. The Ducks feel they have their 4 top forwards to build around. Now it is about getting the role players that can play up and down the lineup. Tampa Bay showed how important those players are and also how bad it is when the pipeline of them dries up.

Look what they had to trade for Jeannot, Hagel, Coleman, etc. Those big guys that play a good 2-way game in every situation on any line are incredibly important. Obviously not as important as legit top 6 scorers, but in theory we have those guys locked in for the next 7+ years.

I'm not worried about Gaucher at all. He is going to be a fan favorite gaurenteed. Myatovic is the pick that I wish they had gone with someone else. Cristall would have been a nice shot, but Strbak would have been amazing to add.

Pronman continues his re-draft series today with the 2019 draft. In the 2019 re-draft, he ranks only 82 prospects.

Re-draft
3. C Zegras, Tier 2: Bubble Elite/NHL All-Star
23. D Lacombe, Tier 6: Middle of the Lineup
33. D Thrun, Tier 7: Projected to Play in NHL
42. D Helleson (via trade with Col), Tier 7

Damn, we're great at drafting defensemen! Thrun looks like a mainstay with the Sharks.

Not on this list is late, first rounder, LW Tracey. That was expected since he didn't have a good year last year.

Only way Thrun was demoted is because the Tank is on. Korchinski hasn't looked good but he's still up with Chicago.

Don't forget the locker room/fan presence he brings. On top of being an effective player, he could be a locker room glue guy/leader eventually. He could end up being a teammate and fan favorite that sticks around for a while. He's a bigger guy, so hopefully he develops more and actually becomes a high end 3rd liner or even a compliment in the top 6.

Saying it “really hurts” to not draft a guy who hasn’t even made the NHL yet is crazy

Every player on a good team can't be a sniper. Gaucher was drafted to fit what the Ducks lack, a physical middle sixer. Don't understand people that complain that we are soft and easy to play against and then are pissed when we draft someone like Gaucher.
Playing devils advocate here, you would think those type of role players are easier to find outside the 1st round and in FA and I think that is what people assume.

But recent history has shown that those players are SUPER valuable and require a ton to acquire in FA or through a trade.

Just an average guy you can find…. But I think gaucher is a full package bottom 6 player

Physical, agitating and a menace on forecheck , penalty killer, locker room/on ice leader, can chip in a bit offensively, not afraid to go to dirty areas and solid in faceoffs. Also just wins everywhere he goes.

I have no issues with the pick as I think he’ll be in Anaheim for a long time.

He has reportedly been a leader on teams that win too.

My fear with Gaucher has always been that he doesn't have the footspeed or puck skills to be anything more than a 4th liner in the NHL. This is after watching him in many games last year. We'll see how he develops in the AHL this season. His size advantage playing against boys will be significantly neutralized playing against men. I'd love to be proven wrong but I sure wish he was some other team's prospect at this point.

Myatovic seems like a great kid with loads of character but his offense really needs to take off this year. He looks to have a long journey to reach the NHL.

Good thing that Gaucher's in the AHL now. We can keep track of his progress again a higher level of competition. You can watch him tonight at 7pm pacific time!

Dunno how Myatovic got into the conversation. He didn't have a great nor good rookie tourney or training camp. Back in juniors, he's looking good and over a ppg rate early in the season: 4 games, 2g + 3a, and a +3 rating.

Since Myatovic was brought up, a prospect that is improving greatly is Hvidston: 7games, 6g + 5a (1.57 ppg rate), and a -1 rating on a weak Swift Current team. Also, he's strong on the PP with 5 PP goals and 1 PP assist, leading the team in PP goals. Unfortunately, he recently got injured and has missed two games. Hvidston is only 3 months older than Myatovic, but was drafted a year ahead of Myatovic in the 2022 draft.

Carey Terrance can absolutely rip it.
What a shot on this kid.

I’ve watched a lot of junior hockey, so am rarely surprised/shocked by much. But he is just unloading cannons. (And not just on his goal)

Thank you for that! Do you have any other update on how he's started the season outside of point production?
