Yeah, hard to defend Middleton there. It was a needlessly violent play, especially away from the puck. Finishing your checks is one thing, but that was well over the line.

Do I want that type of hit in our game? Not even close, but I also can't really condemn it when Middleton got a 5 minute major and game misconduct for simply being stronger than Podkolzin.

The hit itself was late but otherwise fairly clean. But then he uses a slewfoot to upend him and then drives him into the ice. Dirty AF.
I didn't see the slew foot in the first couple of takes, but I admit I don't want to see multiple replays of that hit due to what happened. However, if a slew foot was made to make that hit, then I would give him 20 games easily.

It was also interference, he didn’t have the puck. Middleton was called for the penalty immediately and sent to the box. After it was clear it was serious he got escorted out of the game. It sounds like Podkolzin is ok thankfully and hopefully has nothing linger from it. Middleton isn’t a thug like some guys they’ve employed but he’s a big dummy and these things happen far too often in the AHL.

Wasn't really a late hit, or interference, he had just passed the puck. It was a bit of a slew foot though not awful. His body was just positioned in a vulnerable way.

The real bad part about the hit was the way he finished it. He unnecessarily drove him down way too hard and it looked like he hit the back of his head on the ice. Probably got a concussion and why he was convulsing on the ice afterwards.

Definitely deserves a suspension if they're actually concerned about head trauma.

Is Tufte a late bloomer? Or just a good AHL player that can’t impact the game in the same way at the NHL level?

I think the Miner thing is just because Utah has like a 10 day break. Holm hasn’t done well at all though, would be nice if they allowed Miner to back up Annunen.

Tufte is definitely on a roll. I watched the game last night, I liked Olausson’s involvement. Meyers and Holland were out due to injury, no idea if it’s serious or not. Pavel just has zero puck skill, he has the right idea most of the time but can’t execute a play and loses the puck. Polin has been healthy scratched a few times now.

Polin has never looked good in any of the games I've watched (including against rookies), I don't think his game translates. Its a good thing his deal ends this year.

I know neck guards are getting the attention (for good reason), but I'd really like to see the pants and sleeves get to attention too. I'd argue those are the much higher risk areas.
Yeah, neck injuries are more likely to be catastrophic, but cuts to the legs are more likely, and can still be very dangerous.
