Ottawa`s 2nd will be in 46-50 range. IMO, it`s too low price for one more bottom player, especially with our logjam. He will block the slot for prospect on 3 years. Let Wiesblatt, Cardwell or Raska play instead.
Good point on the pick range. 2nd + Tyler Boucher? Maybe our new development guys can get his career back on track. Plus half our front office played with his dad.

I wouldn't be too worried about Joseph blocking a prospect. If any of them prove they're better than Joseph over the next three years you can just scratch or waive him.

If the Sharks planned to be even somewhat competitive this year I'd understand the argument they shouldn't, but with them probably being the gutter team guys like Eklund and Gushchin should absolutely have spots all but guaranteed for them. Embarassing to have guys like Hoffman/Labanc/Zetterlund/Lindblom potentially block either of them. Both guys look like they need NHL time so far.

I think Quinn has indicated he is going to put Eklund - Granlund - Kunin as a 3rd line, which sounds good, since Eklund needs to slowly get used to the NHL grind and it's better with a little less minutes and he is still getting the PP time for sure where he is going shine.
I can understand that, but I'm also wanting Eklund to be on the ice with players who have some offensive upside.

What does everyone think about Givani Smith? I felt like he looked pretty good in the game tonight. He didn't do anything too special, but was making an noticeable impact in the offensive zone with pressure and his physicality and size.

I don’t want to get too excited, but Muhk seems like the real deal. I think it speaks a lot of the player that he seems to continuously work on his faults and get better. I genuinely can’t tell what his ceiling is, but the tools + the work ethic are all there for something potentially very special.

I think whether or not he can improve his acceleration will determine if he ends up being a Carson Soucy (still a solid outcome) or a Jakob Chychrun.

Muk and Thrun are guys I would make room for on the NHL roster now. If Simek's injury will take some time, that makes it easier to open up a spot for one of them to stick around.

I saw that a bunch of players got waived today. Is there anyone you think the Sharks might claim. Obviously Ty Smith is the name that jumps out and he could probably run the powerplay for us but he is also a LD which we already have too many of.

I was coming here to post the same idea. Pick up Ty Smith. Give him a different chance and see what comes.

Ty Smith is like the slightly less poor man's version of Merkley. No thanks.

I'd take a swing at Smith. It's not like this blueline corps is bursting at the seams with NHL talent. If he works out and rebounds into something resembling an NHLer, great! If he sucks and boat-anchors the team a little bit, also great! The whole point of this team right now should be to try as many cheap reclamation projects as it can to try and find that one winning lottery ticket buried among all the junk ones.

Pens fans are also generally somewhat pissed at this, so it's not like he's reached whipping boy status with them yet and that's a good enough endorsement for me to think he's not 100% hopeless. Or even 95% hopeless.

Smith only played 9 games for the Penguins so they probably don't understand how bad he is.

We already have 10 defensemen who require waivers to be sent down. It makes no sense to add more.

As much as I want to see Mukhamadullin play in the NHL, I’d like to see him destroy the AHL for at least a few months. He’s for sure gonna get a call up.

As far as Ty Smith, I’d love to take a flyer on him, actually. But yeah, the question is, who the hell do you sit at this point?

Another thing on Smith: even if you want to use one of your defense spots auditioning an undersized left shot offensive D with pedigree who hasn't panned out yet, Jack Rathbone and Zac Jones are strong candidates to hit waivers within the next week and I'd much rather get a look at one of them.

Ultimately though I don't think it makes sense for the Sharks to add any waiver eligible defenseman unless they're also moving one out.

Grier ought to know if Zach Jones would be a good add.
Not to mention adding a Jones to balance out the Smith's
