I would lean more into putting kids into the lineup next year over holding them down with more vets.

Eklund-Hertl-Zetterlund
Gushchin-Couture-Celebrini
Peterson-Bystedt-Granlund
Smith-Sturm-Sabourin

Knyzhov-Benning
Thrun-Rutta
Mukhamadullin-Burroughs

Yeah that team still sucks a great deal but a lot more hope for the future and experience gained for the kids in there.
I have doubts this team hits the cap floor.

No, but he may be worse off. This is the absolute worst time to throw someone into that fire. There’s obviously no trust, no confidence and no team cohesiveness and I highly doubt anyone would be willing to take him under their wing and help him understand the mental toughness of the game. At this point I wouldn’t trust any of these guys to give the proper tutelage any of our young d-men need.
I see it as the least bad solution. Kids like him and Muk will still be excited for the opportunity and the pay increase. The way our blue line is built doesn't have any notable changes on the horizon outside of the kids they bring in and maybe a buyout. But in terms of trading for someone or signing someone from free agency, I don't see how it's anyone other than the sort of guys we're already bringing in. Those that are on the cusp of being finished as effective NHL players if not already finished. Even if they have no one proper for tutelage, they can still experience the speed of the game and get used to it a little more. And also, it'd be nice for one of them to actually quarterback the power play to a much better degree than f***ing Kyle Burroughs. There's not going to be an easy way to ease kids into the lineup. So your options are to throw them in or bury them.

Fair point. The floor next year is probably around 65-66 mil. That team is probably around 10 mil short of the floor. We could see if we could take Carey Price off of Montreal's hands.

I've never heard of a team trading for a player on LTIR just so they can take him OFF LTIR.

correct me if im wrong but doesnt LTIR only impact you if youre near the cap. like you can go over by that amount but its still against the cap?

Like Toronto can LTIR guys to exceed the cap by whatever since theyre so close, but it still counts against their cap?

The way it works is it doesn't go against your cap, but the LTIR space is essentially added to your cap.

It's basically the same thing.

Arizona did it all the time to artificially hit the cap floor

Who could forget Coyotes legends like Chris Pronger and Pavel Datsyuk?
I completely spaced on Pronger.

They wouldn't take him off LTIR. LTIR doesn't remove the player from counting against the cap.

So say a team has 1M in cap space. Then places a 5M player on LTIR, they can go over the cap by 4M. 1M is used up by the remaining cap space and the remaining 4M going into the LTIR pool.

Arizona is using $26.5 million in "dead cap" IR to help get up to the floor. (Clayton Keller is the only guy on the active roster with a sizable contract. All 4 of the guys they have on IR would be in their top 6 contracts.)

The Sharks could go that route, but there are limited quantities of players with big contracts available in the "injured retirement" pool.

Reading the trade proposals, according to Pagnotta, the z sharks had discussions with Washington about Mantha. Apparently, Washington wasn’t giving up enough to make the trade.
