Speculation: 2023-24-25-26 Sharks Roster Discussion

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
This was hours before the Eklund trade and I can’t expect we were reasonably offering 2+27 and not being laughed at.
Maybe it was 2OA + our unprotected or lightly protected 2027 1st?

If they know he's leaving in a year and want to walk away with McKenna and Stenberg it wouldn't be the craziest thing.

Sure but if they're getting 2OA and say our unprotected 2027 1st that softens the blow of not having those 1sts a ton.
We also have prospects and other things that we’d offer rather than just picks. So this honestly sounds more like an LAK offer of their next two 1sts because their pool is trash and they desperately need a center (and Matthews would help them attract some Team USA guys too).

Matthews to SJ for picks makes little sense to me given what we have to offer in assets that are not picks that are more enticing and clear up the ensuing logjam that Matthews would create.

LA's next two 1sts don't even come close to matching the value of 2OA alone though. Doubt Toronto would even consider that.

Getting Matthews without touching the roster would be insane for us. Just move Misa to the wing or use him in a trade for Werenski.

Perfect! This team isn't good enough to win now NOR in the future!

A team with Celebrini, Matthews and Werenski isn't good enough to win now? Who's beating them?

Fine trade Askarov for Hellebuyck too

As for the future this pretty much guarantees McDavid to SJ to complete the Judd Moldaver client infinity stone in 2028

You're playing Graf and Marchment on your second line and goaltending is suspect. You also have no idea what Orlov has left or if Kesselring can be who he was (not to mention who knows what Muk or Allen can do). That 4th line shouldn't be playing more than 6 minutes a game and frankly when Auston inevitably gets injured we're back to having a one line forward group with two guys who probably shouldn't be on the first line.

These days are so fun but man the come down is brutal. I keep refreshing hoping for another dopamine hit and it's just not coming

Still plenty of other assets (whoever we pick 9OA and 27OA, Ravensbergen, Musty, Bystedt, LSW, etc.) to improve around the edges.

The point is that's the single most talented roster in the league just as Colorado, Vegas and Dallas are starting to age out of contention in the West.

No idea how reliable Buccigross is, but he says the package the Sharks offered was #9+#27+prospect for Byram. If true, I wonder who is Grier going to pivot for after missing out on Byram?

crazy that the sharks drove up the price for byram for chicago to overpay. that' sharks deal look reasonable if true actually in comparison

and all this started with the sharks jumping them for 2OA and MG rejected them in trade...

KD went on bad trade spiral from this.

You’d better rattle off a Cup in the 2 year window because you’re about to have spent all of your ammo for two players whose deals expire in 2 years and will get raises and term that takes them past their prime.

And even worse, what if they don’t re-sign and you just spent the farm on a 2 year window? Not to mention I just hate Auston Matthews and don’t want to pretend he’s not a loser.

Really sad day trading Eklund, however, very intrigued by the situation we are now in, Stenberg, Smits/Verhoeff is a real dream possibility. There is also the less likely option of Reid + Smits/Verhoeff or another trade that once again changes everything. Really been a chaotic draft cycle going from 9 to 2 and then now to 2 and 9, going to be a fun week regardless.

Toronto isn’t trading Matthews unless he flat out goes to management and says trade me, Toronto loves their big names that sells tickets
It's about all he's good for at this point. He's a whiney, lazy, broken, overrated, loser on a top line. I'm thinking he's got a playstyle better suited for mismatches like Kessel but he's paid like an oil baron. Stupid to introduce someone like that to the team even if it is unrealistic.

I feel like that’s about the package we’re about to offer NYR for Pick #5 too. Trade up and draft one of Reid/Carels. Stenberg plus Reid/Carels would be the have your cake and eat it too draft of the decade (even if I still don’t love Stenberg and feel his upside is limited by being a 2nd liner for SJ - too small for a WillMack running mate).

Awful. You've created a do or die scenario with those draft pick trades while leaving huge problems. 2nd line looks like a 3rd line, 4th line should be tied together and shot into the sun, Trouba?, goalies are WIP.
