Well there's only one California team with multiple 1sts in this draft...
didnt say this draft. Just 2 1sts

He literally said verbatim earlier today he would trade for a player in his late 20s if he thinks they're good enough to be impactful for another 4-6 yearsHonestly, trading for Matthews goes against everything Grier has been preaching.
Trading for a player and mortgaging the future are 2 different things. I also have major reservations Matthews can be impactful for that long.He literally said verbatim earlier today he would trade for a player in his late 20s if he thinks they're good enough to be impactful for another 4-6 years
It still feels like Reilly is coming here but we’ll seeeee

I still wouldn't do it.Wait until they find out it's for #9 and #27
You know hockey fans have lost their collective mind when this idiot is the only one making sense

Read the whole post. His point is that fans grossly overvalue the mystery box element of the "4th overall pick" when in reality teams will be lucky if any of these prospects becomes as good as Byram and now the Hawks don't have to wait or assume the downside risk.Byrams DY was over a half-decade ago. Why would that really be relevant? I guess to give context... so let's take a look at former #4 OA picks. Uh oh, whoever Jason Gregor is never bothered to even Google them. More often than not I would say they're at least on par with Byram. Throw in cost control and boom we got a lopsided Byram deal.
Okay great but you're not getting Seider, Harley or LaCombe for the 4th overall pick in this draft. And Vlasic is obviously not better than Byram. In a re-draft, Byram falls several places. He's 100% no longer the first defenseman taken. (I would take Seider, Harley, Lacombe, and Vlasic).
That doesn't guarantee Carels will be a better NHL defenseman and even if he reaches Byram's level it won't be until the 2030s in all likelihood.Because Carels is a defensive defenseman who scored at a higher pace than him and he's not even ranked 4th.
Weird, I literally fact checked this in my last post. Byram is one of many great 4OA's, just google it. I'd much rather have a chance at a cost controlled Cale Makar and end up with Luke Hughes than throw it away on paying Byram all my money. This draft looks awesome for top 10 D imo.Read the whole post. If the defensemen in this draft looked "awesome" the consensus top two picks would not be smurf wingers, objectively the least valuable player type in the sport.Weird, I literally fact checked this in my last post. He has been stuck behind Makar and Dahlin his entire career. He will easily put up 60+ points in a PP1/top pair role in Chicago and he would have here too.Well, if you see Byram as a 60-point, #1 defenseman, that is one thing. I see him as a #2-3, good for 30-40 points while being overpaid.
Credit where it's due to Davidson. At least it's a big swing. And finally an example of a top 5 pick getting traded recently.Has anyone checked in on the Hawks board? Love him or hate him, Grier has BALLS. Davidson hasn't done much other than accumulate an insane amount of picks and draft very fast skaters.
Assuming the 9+27+prospect offer for Byram actually happened why not turn around and offer that to Vancouver for Filip Hronek?
Because we are going to need a PPQB at some point.Assuming the 9+27+prospect offer for Byram actually happened why not turn around and offer that to Vancouver for Filip Hronek?
Harley could be another target if Dallas decides to keep Robertson and needs to clear cap space.Maybe that's coming tomorrow. Stay tuned.
(Seriously, that could happen, assuming Hronek will waive to come here. Which I'd expect to happen given Vancouver is rebuilding)
