Teams go 14 forwards, 7-8 D-men deep b/c injuries are inevitable.They are 24 and soon to be 25. How much more patient should they be? Neither will be an NHL regular unfortunately. Even Zamula the jury is still out on.
You want that extra forward, whether on the roster or parked in the AHL, to be NHL quality.
Belpedio is a good example of an AHL plus player, just lacks the speed to play in the NHL, same with Marody.
So one of the things you want to do is stockpile players who are marginal NHLers, but still a notch above AHL plus. Ginning, Grans and Attard have 3rd pair upside, if they get crowded out by other prospects, that's a good thing.
