The Devils have him, Hamilton, L. Hughes, Nemec. Weirdly enough, they value skill and having elite offensive defensemen doesn't prohibit drafting more skill. Then they acquired their two actually plus defensive defensemen at a discount.

I feel like this is a better process than spending all your premium assets on mediocre defensive defensemen and then putting all your offense in the hands of York/Andrae.....
Umm hello??

We spent lots on TDA and Risto and they are quite offensive. And by offensive I mean gross.

Uh, you forgot AMac. Trading JVR for L Schenn.
Incompetence didn't begin with Fletcher, he just made it more obvious.

Let's see how he develops with better talent around him this year.

One problem for Gauthier has been that he's been paired with Cooley too much early in his career where his role was limited to a shooting wing, only in BC has he been able to expand his game.

This is why lower leagues I(USHL, CHL) can be detrimental to development b/c coaches have a bigger incentive to win games - in the AHL it's more of a balance (Carolina went overboard pushing for development), b/c the parent team wants its top players to develop. In the case of Gauthier, the relative lack of talent on BC is a plus, since it forces the HC to give him more responsibilities.

I've already decided that Gauthier with be much worse and more reviled than Jeff "High-and-wide" Carter
Well I'm not counting on Gauthier ever being a 40+ goal scorer. Carter was the last one we had, and he was 2nd in the NHL in goals that season. Only Ovechkin had more.

He was literally drafted from a team called the US National Team Development Program.
Development for what? Not the players, the WJC-20 team.

Cutter would have been better served playing center, even if he doesn't stay at center, learning to see the whole ice, larger defensive responsibilities and taking faceoffs would make him a better winger, then just taking passes from Cooley and firing away.

I've seen Cutter comped to MacKinnon, OV and Lindros within the last three days.

I can't wait for people to shit in him like he disappointed when he ends up aomething like a 35G/85P guy because he fell short of those comps.

The only people that do Flyers prospects a bigger disservice then the development staff are the writers that blow up the fans expectations.

Wow. That’s crazy. I haven’t seen that. In fact, on this board, some people see him as a questionable pick with only middle 6 talent at best. A low ceiling talent-wise.

I'd be happy if Gauthier approaches what Patrick should have been, a 40+ ES scorer, two way center with size and speed. A top 2C who can be a solid 1C with the right wingers (Michkov).

Wheeler sees Brink as a potential surprise player this season:

Wheeler: I’m not sure if Bobby Brink would qualify as a surprise as a second-rounder who was a Hobey Baker finalist two years ago and led the NCAA in scoring, but he spent the full season in the AHL last year, has dealt with some injury troubles, and needed an excellent preseason/training camp to put himself in the position that’s now in front of him. I’m a big fan, there’s an opportunity on a rebuilding Philadelphia Flyers team, and he looked outstanding the last couple of weeks. Everything would have to continue to go right for him to get into the conversation, but I could see him working his way into the fringes of ballot consideration maybe.
