If they wouldn't trade him for Chychrun there's negative chance they trade him for Girard.

Was Pinto actually off the table or did they just not need to move him to get the deal done?

Also Arizona basically got the same condition on the 1st round pick the Avs got that landed Byram, so maybe that was preferable.

Top 5 protected, but then the pick would have become an unprotected 2024 1st. Plus a 2nd that could have become a top 10 protected 1st if they made the conference finals, that would become another unprotected 1st if it was top 10. Plus another 2nd.

That had the potential to be a home run return, given the state Ottawa was in.

Yeah. That was the main reason that a trade with Ottawa took so long to come to fruition.

If Pinto hits his potential, he'd be a great fit at 2C for the Avs. They could use his size up the middle too. The question is when would he hit that potential?

He can take his time in Ottawa. Avs don't have that luxury. They need a 60 point kind of center that's relatively sound defensively next year. Maybe Pinto becomes that, but it's a risk.

Avs really only have one shot at a trade for a 2C too. If they move Girard/Toews they don't have many high end assets they can afford to lose going forward. They'd have to rely on UFA, and you can never really predict who makes it there, or how much they can be signed for.

Will be an interesting off season for sure. Curious what CMac and Joe have planned. Wish we could fast forward to the draft already.

So which UFA do you think will be willing to sign for just 1 season with us to be Landeskog replacement next year? Surely we wont go into the season with 7 millions of free cap, now that we know for sure he will not be playing entire season?

I do think there's a real chance they will re-sign JTC now. Not something I would want to see happen.

Don't get your hopes up. We had 12 million in LTIR at the deadline. They are more than happy to not use available cap space

I think Max Pacioretty would be a nice low risk addition.

I think they'll trade for a guy with 1 year left for Landys money. Ideally they're a Center.

Then assuming Girard is part of the trade, they'll sign a UFA for ~3-4M out of the Girard money.

Something like Scheifele via trade, and then Barbashev via UFA.

Part of me feels like that dude would be a mistake to pick up, but he wouldn't have to be the guy.

I just don't know about that one. Maybe he wakes the hell up, or maybe he's done. Hasn't he had his share of injury issues as well?

Nothing on that team smells right. Vancouver and Winnipeg both have culture diseases.

We should stay away from them if possible.

Apparently we can still get the most out of you if you like the snow though.
