At this point the only UFAs I have interest in returning are JTC on no more than 4M, ERod at 3-3.5M, Eller at 1M or less, and JMFJ at league minimum. I imagine the only one that would accept that salary range would be JJ. I don't think the others are good enough players that the market increase in another year is going to dramatically affect what they will get offered this summer, so I don't see them taking one year deals at those rates either.

As for RFAs, Byram at whatever takes or trade, Malgin on a two-way deal that pays him handsomely in the AHL, The others, I'd extend them their minimum offer sheets.

Long term going above 4.5m is a huge risk for the Avs.

No way he should get 4m on a bridge.
I thought the same thing when the Avs signed a RFA Rantanen to a 9.25M contract. The world obviously changed faster than I was ready back then. At this point, I'm thinking a bride with Bo is 2 years at 4-5M and long term would be 5 years at ~6M or 8 years at starting at 7.5-8M and going lord knows how high.

The thing is, I believe if the Avs do a long term deal they HAVE to trade Girard or Toews this summer. And I'm not so sure the Avs are ready to do that while hand out a long-term contract yet with his injury history. I think they'll pay for the bridge or use him in a trade this summer to continue shoring up the roster.

[edit...I really doubt Briere opened up the talks to other teams after Krug blocked the initial trade deal, but damn, a 6th for Hayes at 50%...To be honest, I'd have given our 5th, 6th and 7th.]

Luckily the Oilers are right against the cap too, cause as soon as Bouchard signs, I feel Byram will say I want more than that.

I think they’ll trade Arvidsson to clear up space?

If the Kings do decide to move Arvidsson, I wonder if the Avs look to bring him in to re-unite with Johansen? They had good chemistry in the past, which could ease RyJo's transition onto the team.

26 goals 59 points last year. Probably would have more for the Avs because most players do. Good value at $4.25M and could come cheap in trade again. Won't impact their cap beyond next year.

Keeping Girard might be about Mansons injury history too. They probably rationalize that Girard can play either side.

If I had my way none of the 27/31/37 picks would be used by the Avs. They have some major rosters holes to fill still (f*** you MacFarland, not JTC) and the lions share of the work is still left to be done.

But this is MacFarlands first year as GM you just know he's going to want to have his moment at the podium today, so they'll be using at least one of their firsts.

I'm going to be so unproductive today waiting for the other shoe to fall on the Newhook deal.

I’m going to be sick if Compher signs a long term deal here. At the $3.5m he was making, I have no problem, but he’s a glorified third liner who’s been given way too much responsibility. He got killed in the Seattle series.

If we get through today without a 3C the odds of it being JTC go up exponentially. I don't hate JT3C but I'd rather they move on. Backlund would still be my #1 choice at 3C.

Unless JTC is taking a discount, it is in his best interests to wait a few days to see what happens in the UFA market. If he makes it to the UFA market on July 1, I doubt he is returning.

I am really curious to see what CMac's plan is for the team. With the current NHL roster forwards, this is not a Stanley Cup contending team IMO.
