Just trade everyone who’s contract is expiring.

Toews next year
Mikko in two years
Makar in 4 years

Trade em all!!!
Why trade any of them when we can overpay them all and have 9 years of agony followed by a 6-7 year rebuild? That's the way! :handclap::highclap:

You talk of trading Rantanen for a haul to bring cap relief, so I am assuming that means picks/prospects.

Put yourself in Cale Makar's shoes: why would he re-sign with Colorado if they go ahead and trade the 50 goal, 3rd best player on the team who is one of the best players in the league?

We talk of contending with 29/8 but you go ahead and start trading Rantanen, letting Toews walk, etc you aren't exactly sending a strong message of contending to Cale Makar.

Well, if you start trading guys like Toews in a year when his contract is up, that agony will begin early. Then you trade Mikko in two years, that’s pretty much entering rebuild category, all of that when the core players are still young. So you’re pretty much suggesting early rebuild in a year or two

It’s not that far off from the message sent last year when CMac was content with the team having JTC or Newhook at the #2C position, or doing worst then nothing at the TDL.

I think the roster is set. Hope we don't entertain a trade for G, he's offensively like having another forward anyways.

Drouin - Mack - Nuke
Lehks - RyJo - Rants
Wood - Colton - LOC
Cogs - Wagner - XXXXX

Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
Girard - Johnson

Georgiev
Francouz

+ Much bigger than last season
+ Much more skill than last season
+ Much grittier than last season
+ Better off on the dots than last season
+ Deeper than last season

My GODDDDD, I'm having the worst kind of AVS withdrawals - longest off season EVER. Bring my boys BACK already !

Sorry Vegas, as Johnny Rambo once said: "I'm coming to get youuu "....('I'm" being the AVS obviously).
Right wing Chris Wagner, who played 2 NHL games in the last 2 seasons is our 4C???

I can’t believe after running into major depth problems last year that heading into the season (as of now) we have to pencil Ben Meyers into our NHL lineup and Logan O’Connor on the 3rd line. That’s horrid depth if fully healthy. Just wait until injuries happen and we have to call up guys from the AHL. For as underwhelming as guys like Galchenyuk and Hudon are, we’re going to have far worse playing NHL games this year unless they bring in multiple more pieces.

Preach brother. I hope CMac is not done. We need proven vets to challenge the Meyers, O-laugh-son, and others. With fully buriable contracts it wouldn't even impact the cap.

What worries me is MacFarland's presser saying it is time for the kids to step up and citing guys like Meyers and Olausson.

If he genuinely believes that, he is in for a major letdown and his job should be in question next season.

That’s just how the Avs operate. They project young players to take roles and don’t have many backups for if they fail. We’ve seen it over and over. Story isn’t fully written yet, but I’d be surprised if more than one more forward was brought in. Maybe a 2nd PTO in camp.

They’re both terrible. It’s absurd.

This is supposed to be a Stanley cup contender. A Stanley Cup contender who can’t draft a quality player outside of the top 10 if their lives depended on it and they went ahead and made 2 picks in the late 1st round this year? It absolutely kills me that they used those picks. If 35th overall nets you Ross Colton imagine what one of, or two of those 1sts could get you.

Look, after the RyJo move, the Newhook trade and the Colton trade I thought Cmac started the offseason off on absolute fire. I thought now he’s really going to start filling in some of those depth gaps that killed us last year. But nope. It’s been a disaster ever since.

They aren’t a move away like many people think. They need multiple pieces.

They’re not going to sit on $2M in cap space. They’ll sign someone to fill out the roster in August.
They may keep that for a deadline addition or just to carry more players. As it sits, only one extra. Getting another 900k player (simply calling up someone) leaves that around a million.

Yeah, I think one more addition will be what we’ll see and probably around the $1M range.

Imo, they want to give Meyers another chance this year. My guess is a winger is signed sometime in August.

I expect another signing too but if that signing is a winger I’ll be even more pissed than I am right now.

As of right now our centre depth after Mackinnon is Johansen who, unless he can have some type of rejuvenation is a downgrade on JTC which is downright sad. Colton who is a winger, and Ben Meyers lol.

We had to give Newhook one more chance to prove himself. Avs did not know that Newhook would be that bad and would not fit in 2C or 3W. Same with JTC, he did manage to get points but was too expensive to keep as the third liner.

Hear me out. We had Matt Nieto, top 6 forward, in Game 4 versus the Kraken. And this was after our trade deadline additions in a year that ostensibly we wanted to compete for the Cup.

In case you forgot, here's what lines looked like. In a playoff game we were trying to win:

Lehky-Mack-Erod
Nieto-JT2C-Mikko
Meyers-Eller-Malgin
Cogs-Newhook-LOC

(Injuries: Landeskog (knee), Nichushkin (escort))

Do you really think there haven't been significant upgrades to our top 9 this off-season?

They might keep the cap space for the waiver wire, tons of players get waived at the beginning of the season and Avs love them waivers.

They also might keep it so they have room during the season in case of injuries, and then use at the deadline.

Plenty of reasons to not spend the remaining 2M this summer.

Ya’ll really trying to get me riled up on a Saturday morning with this JTC stuff. The one season where he leeched off Mikko Rantanen, doesn’t make him better than Johansen.

Colton at any position is a big upgrade over Eller, who was our 3C last year.

They didn’t have to and the scouts and coaches should have been screaming against it. People didn’t want to hear it and apparently the Avs didn’t want to hear (or admit) it either… but Newhook simply doesn’t have a top 6 center skill set. Avs went into the season to force that… then didn’t fix the issue of him not having the battle or motor to be a bottom 6 guy.

Yeah, personally I would have moved both 1sts in order to find young, cheap help for this team.

One thing I always hold out hope for is Dermy being flipped for an actual 7D.

I would dump a draft pick to do it. The Avs don’t seem to want to do it though, which is a bit frustrating. Hunt and Malinski slot in ahead of him, so it’s just wasted money.

That and Olofsson being dropped down to the 13th forward slot are the last couple roster tweaks I’m hoping to see.
