This is why the Avs went reclamation and projection. They grabbed guys like Drouin and RyJo betting they can regain form. Then grabbing Colton and Wood betting expanded roles will help them. This clearly carries risk.
Yep. This makes or breaks the season. (Short of unforeseen injury, of course)

The numbers prove it Chet. Johansen has been more productive throughout his career with twice as many 60+ point pace seasons, and 3 times as many actual 60+ point seasons with 6 to Kadri's 2.

His 26 goal 63 point season a couple years ago wasn't an outlier year either like you guys keep saying. He put up 63 points one other time and also had a 64 and 71 point season. He also had the same 26 goals one other time and a 33 goal season another.

This is not the same as Kadri's clear cut outlier year and career season, where he put up 87 points and paced for 100, which are both much higher than he ever had before.

I'll post it again in case you didn't see.

Kadri

2010-11: 34 pt pace
2011-12: 27 pt pace
2012-13: 75 pt pace (44 points)
2013-14: 53 pt pace
2014-15: 44 pt pace
2015-16: 49 pt pace
2016-17: 61 pt pace (61 points)
2017-18: 56 pt pace (55 points)
2018-19: 49 pt pace
2019-20: 58 pt pace (Avs)
2020-21: 47 pt pace (Avs)
2021-22: 100 pt pace (Avs) (87 points)
2022-23: 56 pt pace (56 points)

Johansen

2011-12: 26 pt pace
2012-13: 25 pt pace
2013-14: 63 pt pace (63 points)
2014-15: 71 pt pace (71 points)
2015-16: 62 pt pace (60 points)
2016-17: 61 pt pace (61 points)
2017-18: 56 pt pace
2018-19: 66 pt pace (64 points)
2019-20: 43 pt pace
2020-21: 38 pt pace
2021-22: 65 pt pace (63 points)
2022-23: 42 pt pace
You are skewing the data to make it fit your viewpoint. You're saying RyJo is better because over the years he was more consistent 60 pts guy. When he really has only had one good 60 pts season since 2019.

The last time RyJo out paced Kadri was 18-19, that's 5 seasons ago.

You can talk about throwing out outliers etc all you want but that still doesn't paint a picture of RyJo being better current day.

RyJo was better in the years 2012-2019, Kadri had been the better player the last 4 seasons, and honestly much better.

What RyJo did in his early to mid 20s isn't really relevant to the player he is today.

You can interpret the data however you want, but it doesn't really suggest that RyJo is better than Kadri current day. I think most on here would agree with me in saying Kadri is better today than RyJo and would take him 10 times out of 10 over RyJo.

I can 100% see Colton being the 2C at the end of the season... if that happens though, the Avs are in real trouble.
Why? If Colton is producing at 2C level and you have the option to put RyJo at 3C, that’s even better

Wood and Colton are where they should be. RyJo has been productive for most of his career. Drouin is a risk but I think with the lessened pressure and top line mates like Mack he’ll 100% improve offensively

I mean Colton doesn’t have 2C upside. At least not realistically. Him playing 2C wouldn’t be much different that JTC playing 2C.
Yeah but I was just saying if somehow Colton actually produces like 2C, that’s only gonna make the Avs better. Some people think he actually can

Basically that. If Colton is playing as a 2C here, he'll be a slightly better JTC. Which simply isn't good enough when the playoffs roll around.

Casually forgets to mention that the one outlier season of the last 4, in 2022, Ryjo shot an insanely unsustainable 22% (career 12% shooter), and had an insane 14% on-ice shooting % that year too.

Never seen someone spend so much time bending over backwards to defend a truly mediocre player.

Drouin sucks. If he is playing with the big boys once the playoffs roll around this team is going nowhere.
I mean the dude can still produce offense. Even with his disappointing stint in Montreal he still averaged 48pts a season. Now he gets to not be shoehorned into a position he can’t play and gets to play in a market that’s far less toxic and a lot quieter. It’s not a guarantee he’s going to boom, but this is the best place for him to come and have a resurgence. Even if he only gets a 10pt boost from playing with Mack that’s still basically a 60pt player. And if it doesn’t work out he’s making 850k so it’s an easy contract to bury.

I don't really think Drouin is a big issue... if he succeeds, then the Avs simply don't have to add a top 6 winger at the deadline. If he doesn't, the Avs will have to make a move for one of the ~10-15 top 6 wingers available. Not a big deal. Wingers are easy to get.

RyJo: question mark
Drouin: question mark
Nuke: question mark
Manson: question mark

All 4 of these players have questionable health + questionable something else. 3 of them are projected in the top 6, the other is a top 4 dman.

You could probably toss the backup goaltender in there also.

Well, tough shit. It is what it is. Give me a contending team with zero question marks. In a hard cap league, there isn't one.

Check your math. 186 points in 6 seasons. 31 per year average. He equates to an average 3rd line player.

If we are relying on this guy to be a LW1 we are in serious trouble.

Seriously, the guy has 17 goals in the past 4 years combined. He's garbage.

And that's fairly normal for a salary cap sport/team, even a contender. The aberration is having the discounted contract situation to build a team with few weaknesses/question marks.

If you want a perfect team, go be a Bama fan.

I don’t really think Drouin or Nuke are question marks. Even last year with everything going on Nuke still put up top line numbers. He’ll be fine. Drouins basically a guaranteed 45pts, he should be fine in the top 6. Manson and RyJo are major question marks though.

Tampa 2019-2021, Kings 2012-2014, Hawks 2010 and 2012-2014:nod:

Avs certainly have questions and I wouldn't put them as the top contender next year (arguably not even top 5), but I think the Avs have reasonably attacked their weaknesses with solid bets. It certainly wasn't perfect and more can be done, but as someone who has slammed them not being aggressive enough for years (before and after the Cup), they did some aggressive work with the restrictions they have. Just gonna have to see it play out now.

Yeah but if Colton is slightly better than JTC meaning he’s producing at 50+ point pace and you got RyJo also producing at that rate, that means the Avs are whole lot better when your 2C and 3C are doing that. Last year the Avs 3C was Eller who had zero offense

186 points in 321 games in Montreal comes out to a .57ppg. Multiply by 82 is a 48 point pace over a full season. Pace obviously isn’t a guarantee, but the math is correct bud.

If Colton is producing at that rate, it means he passed RyJo on the depth chart and RyJo is probably in his don't give a F mode with bad defense and maybe 30 points.

Drouin had mental and injury issues and has missed a shitload of games in the last 4 years. He's full of question marks. His contract can be buried but we have no spare top 6er.

Nuke missed 29 regular season games last year due to a lingering injury (and didn't look the same when he was playing if you remember correctly) + we all know how he left the team in the playoffs. If he's not a question mark right now I don't know what he is

Yes. And there's a lot of people that don't want to admit this, but JTC also generated zero offense and just slurped up Rantanen splash damage.

If JTC played in the bottom 6 he'd have performed offensively/statistically like Eller.
