Byram and Girard both jumped to the Right side last year at times. I'd rather do that again then sign Foote quite frankly. And I'd trust Malinski over Foote.

The only way they should be doing anything with the Defense IMO is if they make a trade, since nothing in the UFA market is confidence inspiring outside of Dumba who I don't think we could afford.

I think at this point it should just be a deadline fix if it needs fixing at all.
I'd rather Malinski earn it in camp over Foote.

Cal Foote:
Mobile, intelligent, and reliable in his own zone with offensive ability to match, Foote has the tools to become a legitimate top-pair defenseman.Feb 26, 2023

Cal Foote – DobberProspects

You find everything management does negative, I wouldn’t be shocked if you criticized how landeskog lifted the cup.
They deserve criticism at the moment. They are acting like they are set to be a Cup contender with the roster as is, even though they didn't really solve much from last season to this one and still have multiple holes.

Watching 2 very reasonable NHL depth players sign for peanuts when the bottom 6 still has holes and is an area of concern is very frustrating.

Sure they have the rest of the summer to make moves, but it sure seems like that are content to go into next season with roster that is lacking and not nearly good enough to be a true contender.

Anyone who says they wouldn't be tumescent at seeing Foote #52 back on the ice in an Avalanche jersey is a liar. Sign him up.
Should I set up a bot that makes this post periodically? It'll save me the trouble having to write it out or go looking for it to quote it.

I wish they'd dump MacDermid. No reason to be paying a guy basically $1M to sit in the press box all year. Bednar doesn't trust him at all and rightfully so. They've got more then a few guys that will be regulars in the lineup willing to fight when needed as well.

That $1M could easily be spent better elsewhere.

Better players cost more money. There will be at least 1-2 roster spots making under a mil, and Boqvist/Sundqvist will have a bigger impact than the prospects in our system.
I mean... They still have to fill out the roster. Boqvist and Sundqvist literally just signed for league minimum. You can't fill out the roster with cheaper contracts.

Ben Meyers for example had a QO of I believe $870,000. So if he's who they fill out the 4th line with, he's going to cost 100k more than what Boqvist would have cost us to be the 4C.
I guess they could sign a 4C instead of resigning Meyers. I just think keeping the remaining cap space after they sign Colton will give them an option of getting one or two impact players in a deadline trade rather just spending that cap on this remaining free agents who again, not very exciting names

I think a bot that complains about CMac "missing out" or "being asleep" every time some borderline NHLer who probably doesn't fit with Bednar's vision of a bottom 6 player signs with another team for around league minimum would be more useful.

I really thought Sundqvist would fit bednar's vision..

The more I think about it, the more I think the Avs will probably address the 3RW slot and then offer PTOs and call it good until the season begins.

I suspect they will scour the waivers for bottom pairing dmen and a 4th line upgrade if Meyers proves to be not up to it. Of course, they could always swap Meyers to LW. Cogliano is perfectly capable of playing 4C. My biggest worry is if he's healed 100%, that was a pretty brutal neck injury. Has there been any updates on his health? I only saw his signing via capfriendly and not a news release.

Forget the 3RW, Avs are one single injury away from Macdermid at defense.

How many games are they planning to play with 6 healthy dmen? 15? 20?

That's 60 games of defenseman MacDermid....and we better hope that JJ doesn't fall off a cliff.

In other words, we need a defenseman. Right handed if possible.

Hunt still exists... for me, NO to adding another D. we have too many bodies there already, to the point they will be sending that kid that impressed in development camp back to juniors because there is no slot for him to play already, unless he goes to ECHL. there is Malinski. Hunt. if they need more than two, give a look at Fairbrother. Middleton already had some games in the big team before.

Who cares about regular season. Playoffs is what matters:
Lehk - Mac - Drouin
Nuke - RyJo - Rant
Wood - Colton - Lando :)
Cog - Meyers - LOC
Add: trade deadline acquisition middle 6 forward for depth
Rock & Roll baby!

Wood, Colton and Kassian on a line.

Drouin MacKinnon Nuke
Lehkonen Johansen Rantanen
Wood Colton Kassian
Cogliano Meyers LOC

What’s Kassian love all about? All I remember him doing in that Oilers series was that goal he fluke tipped but mostly just running around trying to hurt guys and not actually playing hockey

Not sold bringing a former addict around Nuke is an amazing plan

He’s bat shit crazy and likes to crash and bang. He can fight a bit, too. He does takes dumb penalties, though. Lol
