I hate that teams are forced (Cap implications) for the most part to wait to the TDL because IMO by that time the season is 75% over and that gives little time for the new acquisitions to gel with the rest of the team. It's too bad that some Cap incentives can't be built into the system for teams to make early trades.
A year or so before Covid, I heard an interview with a guy who was on some special committee to figure out how the league could incentivize teams to make earlier trades. That was the last that I've heard of it.

Question...does this roster need any upgrades? They are playing like they don't but I have this nagging feeling the other shoe will drop and the team is riding a "fighting above weight" wave. I'm a proponent (as are others) for more toughness to address playoff style of play. Others are a proponent of a #1/2 C and/or top 6 winger. (very few teams don't want/need this). Are we happy with the status quo? ...again I have a nagging feeling but am starting to feel like we have a chance at a decent deep run with the current roster.

According to some they need some more people who will punch faces. Not something Sweeney is going to prioritize unless we've learned nothing about him over the past few years. In realistic terms, they have no cap space to do anything, and anyone of value they could move they can't afford to move. I am with you that I think this team as currently built can do some damage. Zacha is making a believe out of me as a 1C. I had my doubts coming into the season. Coyle/Poitras/Beecher make us strong down the middle. A second line scoring wing would be nice , but we have him if he would start scoring. A 3rd pair McQuaid/Miller type dman would be good, too.

I know it’s a pipe dream, but if Arizona falls off by the deadline, I’d love for the B’s to target Crouse.

Huge, tough, can skate and score a little.

Perfect for this team, IMO.

Cap hit is a little high @ 4.3, but he’d be a good get.
I think it'd take a package that the bruins probably can't afford to pry him away from the Yotes.

They need size up front. It’s a very, very soft forward group.

I’d probably stay away from Perry with that cap hit. Plus, Chicago loves him for the kids.

“Seems like…”

Once again, no reporting here whatsoever. Just writing what Pierre McGuire feels. Top notch journalism as usual from Murphy.

He is doing well. 9 points. He still has a lot to offer. I’d be happy adding him as well.

Zacha has been an excellent addition. Sweeney is the best gm in the league.

Rooted for Pavel from the beginning of his time in Boston, and am very happy he appears to be thriving.

And remember, he's only 26.

Sweeney deserves great credit for the acquisition, which carried risk and question marks at the time.

FWIW on a Monday afternoon in late November,

Hanifin is a very good player but i don't see how he makes any sense for us. The hole on the roster is very obviously in the top 6 and we don't have enough assets to acquire Hanifan and fill that hole.

ON D - Remove Shattenkirk from equation because if everyone is healthy he's most likely sitting therefore Forbort goes and you lose one of the best PK players in the league. Bad.

ON F - Kunin I'm okay with for either Steen or Heinen but I don't think Kunin makes the team drastically better. Steen is tough to play against on that 4th line and can move up if need be. Heinen is more versatile.

No expert but have to agree with this. Steen and Heinen, in very different ways, have been solid additions that I don't see Boston meddling with.

As for Jake, I don't know what to say, and I'm not sure what you do at this point. He's playing himself out of a payday, and possibly out of town. I feel bad for him.

I agree. It would be great to add size and physicality with Zardorov, but the greater need is up front.

I shouldn't be saying this but this feels good. Too bad he wasn't claimed. Hopefully he doesn't replace my new binky Hall.

Hall?

I don’t think it was overly risky. He just traded journey man haula. Meh. We don’t miss haula.

I don't know if it's that bad, but if there is a move to be made towards that end (you know Sweeney isn't going to do anything soon probably) I would prefer it come on the defensive side.

I don't think it was overly risky, either. But the picture in NJ was cloudy and many questioned Zacha. It was a straight up hockey trade that benefited both clubs. At present, it also looks like a steal by Sweeney.

We saw glimpses of this last year. Glad those glimpses were not the exception which proves the norm.

I'm very pleased for him because, as with Senyshyn, expectations were sky high because of where he was drafted (sixth overall).

Good for him. I've also been rooting for "Pav" because I respect responsible two way play and honest effort. Zacha doesn't cheat.
