People forget Gettinger but he was another tall tree who could skate and play a solid 2-way game. His issue was he wasn’t overtly physical and at his size, he really needed to be

It's a limited sample so far but Rempe has had some impact on Rangers goal production in the 10 games he's played. His own goal and an assist on Edstrom's 2nd. He was also on ice when Vesey scored on Binnington and later in the same game Rempe had a goal called back that was about as close to scoring as it gets. The Rangers have also scored two goals with him screening the goalie that he didn't get any points on but the likelihood that either goes in without him being net front is pretty small.

For someone averaging 5:38 a game that's quite a lot. On ice for 5 goals and one goal called back in 10 games one of which he was tossed out early. Add in 4 fights, 31 hits, 3 blocks and 3 for 6 on face-offs. With Bonino, Pitlick etc. we went weeks without any 4th line production and they had a lot more ice time. The guy is 21. He's going to get better. I'm not suggesting he's going to be a top 6 forward but he could definitely be a very good 4th liner. What does anyone want from their 4th line players? Energy, forecheck and back check hard, hit every chance they get, keep the other team's on their toes, penalty kill, chip in offense now and again. He's doing most of that already.

And he won the face-off on Gus’s goal

Ollas inked after Wednesday's season ending loss for Merrimack in Hockey East prelim round

His numbers have gotten worse each year, but I wonder how much of that is due to the team around him. This was his worst year, but he still managed a respectable .908 save percentage, and Merrimack's other goalie had significantly worse numbers.

Whether or not he can be even an AHL goalie, we needed another guy in the system since Lindbom will likely be gone.

With him signing, we don't have any goalies left outside of the NHL/AHL/ECHL, so I'm guessing we'll draft one this year. The silver lining of not having any 2nd or 3rd round picks is that we won't waste them on a goalie.

NCAA stats for goalies notoriously unreliable as a predictor of pro success.

I don't see Ollas as a serious NHL prospect but the Rangers have been experimenting with long shot project goalies for decades now trying to turn them into a pro goalie with good coaching. Cam Talbot was obviously the big success story, but we have many failures.

With Ollas signing the Rangers now have six goalies under contract next year. This year the team had six but in the past the team has had five plus an AHL contract. With six goalies. there is no room for Lindbolm, who is an RFA, in the system. Doesn't seem likely he will be qualified.

I agree with GAGLine that the team likely will draft a goalie to marinate for the future. I thought the team would draft one last year.

Given the six goalies under contract it seems very unlikely the Rangers dip into the free agent market for a goalie for next year.

very nice. conversely, do you have any data (or memories) about goals against? i seem to remember the team killing all of the penalties he's taken too.

With a roughing penalty and 6/6 in the dot
He got another assist to make it 2+2, +1 with 5 shots and 10 out of 11 on faceoffs.

He now has 68 points in 65 games, so a point-per-game finish is the worst-case scenario.

Prior to his hot streak, he had 3 points in 8 games. During his hot streak, he has 18 points in 8 games. That's crazy.

Would like to see it continue in the playoffs

He's +3 so if he's been on for 5 goals for that means he's been on for two against.

Four fights and two match misconduct penalties take up 50 of his 54 penalty minutes. The Rangers killed off the two five minute majors that came with the match misconduct penalties. He also got a roughing minor along with Siegenthaler after the Bastian hit. He had a trip in the Florida game. Reinhart scored on that power play.
