a NYer in England
Chmelar was having a very good year before the injury. He's another big guy 6'5 220 lbs. that can really skate.....played on two Czech WJC teams. He had almost all his point production before the injury. I'm inclined to think he needs another season at Providence College too. Before that he was flirting with point a game. I think the skill is there.....he's just got to get his game and confidence back. Mancini also has size 6'4 220 lbs. A stay at home D. The Rangers have a number of very large prospects that are doing well.
Big players with skills make us significantly harder to play against. You need that for post season success and I'm glad that we're filling that pipeline.

I agree, he was clearly trending towards a contract but with the injury, I'd keep him there for another year with the plan to be to sign him after his NCAA season is done on a PTO to get him in to Hartford to complete his season. I really like the player. Like Edstrom and Rempe, he is more than okay forcing his will physically.

Has anyone gotten eyes on Roobroeck this year?

He's been scorching hot (12 points in his last 5 which has pushed him above a ppg) on a pretty good Oshawa team. He was drafted as an overager but his stat line isn't bad for someone in their age 19 season who profiles for a lower line role.

Another massive dude. How are his feet?

I have been thinking the same thing. His numbers look pretty decent as compared to last year with 4 less games played but 11 more points

Listed at 6'7' 205.

Bit of a bean pole but he's got a ton of body to grow into.
Yup. and people don't realize sometimes that these huge guys usually take WAY longer to develop. It's much harder to project their top end. We took a flyer on this guy, he may get no better or he could become a well above average NHLer. Most draftees are a total crapshoot at 18 or 19, these big guys are still a crapshoot at 20-21.

If Laba was in a top 5 NCAA program I'd suggest he play one more year, but I'm not sure he has much more learning to do as the best player on CC's roster.

Certainly wouldn't expect him to take the AHL by storm at age 21, but a middle 6 role could be good for him.

Do the conference playoffs start this weekend?
Adding to above, interesting NYR related situations
4 NYR prospects face each other in 2 of 3 series

harvard/karpa vs Cornell/kempf

Colorado College/laba vs Omaha/Mancini

Some of their seasons may end very soon
3 juniors all 22 before training canp,
and an exceptional sophomore,
possible near-term NYR signings
