anyone watching Victor Mancini lately?

just did some stat searching and he not only won defensive player of the year twice, he also shoots quite a bit and blocks quite a bit. seems like a candidate to turn pro this year.

searched some old threads on him and a few teams were surprised he wasn't drafted in his first two years of eligibility (double overager).

ESPN+ doesn't carry those games, unfortunately, but he is an interesting prospect. Since he's our only RD prospect, I imagine he'll get a contract when he's ready to go pro. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in the AHL and in camp.

wonder if gets signed following this spring, following his Junior season
given he is already almost 22, and that, before UNO,
had a full season in Sweden, and
then one split between Sweden and USHL,

Omaha is firmly in 6th (of 8) in NCHC
their regular season ends Mar 8,9 hosting No.Dak

then comes conference tournament -
don't know the NCHC format,
but if 1-8, 3-6 etc, Omaha could face Col Coll and Laba

UPDATE - formats will be changing in future,
but yes, if standings stay same, Mancini vs Laba in 1st round of conference playoffs

Hartford could use him. Hopefully he signs.

I saw him a few times last year and once this year. A few of the NCHC games are on the CBS Sports cable channel. Yes there is such a thing.

I can't imagine he won't be signed. He's a big, strong, physical kid, not a lot of offense but can move the puck with his first pass. He's first out on the PK but doesn't play PP.

This is from the Elite Prospects 202 Draft Guide:

"Mancini played left defense on Frolunda's second pairing. His north-south speed was decent for his size. He was effective when he kept things simple and made quick, short-range plays to stay out of trouble. Mancini's ability to read the game off the puck was something that stood out. He also made excellent reads and played a very alert game defensively."

He is a right handed shot.

I've been pushing him to be higher on our draft ratings than we'll have him. Because he doesn't score a great deal he doesn't receive much attention. Scott Wheeler did not include him in his list of Rangers top prospects. I think Scott missed the mark with Mancini.

I know he’s a ways away, but the blue print for Drury’s bottom 6 is starting to come into focus. Guys with big bodies that know how to use them. I’m sure JC will be taking note!
Its not bad idea for the bottom 6. How about big bodies that play big in the top 6. Any future Tkachuk Marchand types in the draft? Rangers need that element in the top 6. Not soft finesse players that isn't good along the boards and disappear when it gets to physical hockey

Marchand is a Smurf. Doubtful there’s anyone either Tkachuk caliber available when the Rangers pick… if they pick… in the 1st round. Othmann might be a poor man’s version of that when he matures. We’ve been saying for years that we need the guy you describe but teams don’t let them go very often. Closest they probably came in recent memory was JT Miller.

Good to see some late round giant fliers finally paying off though.

Marchand is smurf, but he plays bigger than he is. Rangers need those types. Size helps but having some nasty with skill is not a bad thing.

Nasty with skill is fabulous. I think that was one of the major missing components of the Rangers teams the last 10-15 years. The other being a true number 1 center before they got Zibanejad.

I think it’s more of there being a major scarcity in that category, than the Rangers avoiding it. The Tkachuk’s went super early in their drafts. Washington never made a guy like Tom Wilson available. Hell, even a guy like Josh Anderson needed to be dealt for then vastly overpaid, and he’s not much of a talent. JT Miller was the one guy who became something similar, and I admittedly (incorrectly), wasn’t a big fan of his at the time he was dealt.

Those mid 2010’s teams were very likable, but they def seemed to have too much of a Kumbaya thing going on. They would have benefitted from that type of player.
