Th is one is debatable for me. I’d like to space out Chemlar, Perrault, Laba and Lamb. Having all 4 go pro at the same time seems like poor planning as playing time will be hard to come by.
One of those 4 is not like the other and will not be competing for playing time. They are all going to turn pro within a yr of each other. The AHL will then separate thr talent.

Chmelař and Laba turning pro in 2024 to offset Othmann and Edström moving up to the NHL. Chmelař is definitely filled out enough to turn pro. Laba is the same age and at center we will have some openings.

Lamb and Perreault can turn pro in 2025.

If Chmelar had a healthy season I’d say yes but I don’t like him going pro after missing half of his season…

As long as he comes back and continues to do what he’s done I don’t see the problem with it TBH.

I want to get him and Laba in the AHL so they can continue to develop the skills that are going to get them to the show. No
Place better to do that than a grind heavy league.

I understand that concern, but Chmelař is the same age Berard was last year. Age-wise it makes sense.

Aren’t Laba and Lamb also D+3? Same as Berard. I thought they want USHL route for a season each with Lamb drafted and then played a season and Laba drafted after his USHL season.

Listen, I could be convinced with Laba. He’s had a very good season and he projects as a bottom-6 power forward. He’ll be 21 by the time next season starts .

If Chmelar was having a healthy season, I’d say no brainer. But he had 13 points last year as a Freshman and this year he was trending for just under a ppg which is what I’d like to see from any NCAA forward before they’re pulled. We just didn’t see it beyond the 16-17 games he played this year.

True, but NCAA eligibility gives the Rangers more flexibility.

Berard's NHL rights expired after his D+4

However, Laba's, Lamb's and Chmelař's NHL rights expire after his D+5 because they only moved to the NCAA after their D+1. They spent a year in the USHL/SM-sarja before going to college.

perrault absolutely needs to stay another year. he's not a guy who's going to get anything for the ahl nor is he physically ready for pro hockey. absolutely no reason for him to leave until he's an effectively unquestionable nhl player. he's not going to get anything from the ahl with his style of hockey, and the college schedule allows for a lot more of the physical development he needs to successfully make the pro jump. it's a no brainer. unless he like fails out he needs to go back for another year.

chmelar and laba i'm more or less indifferent on...from a rangers perspective you'd prefer them play another year and have them turn pro as close to nhl ready as possible when they sign their entry deal. that said, if for whatever reason they want to leave school they'd be fine physically in the ahl and play a game that can develop there.

Do any of Berard, Sykora, Laba, Lamb , Chmelar and Edstrom project to be good scorers if put in 3rd/4th line roles or are they all energy guys?

I think Berard has the highest ceiling when it comes to goal scoring, I'm still hoping for a Gallagher type of career for him. I think Sykora will be a close second but he will be more of a greasy goal guy where as I think Berard can get the greasy ones as well as snipe a few beauties. Edstrom I can see in the Boyle vain, but. with a bit more finesse. Lamb I think is a bigger boom or bust type. Each year he gets better but no idea how he'll adjust to the pros. Laba(from what I've seen and it's extremely limited) might become what Drury thought he was getting in Goodrow. I'm probably wrong in more than 1/2 of these but just from what I've seen.

I don't see Berard as gritty or physical as Gallagher. I don't see the similarities at all. I think Sykora reminds me of a more skilled Jesper Fast type, more speed and as physical as Fast was.

Laba was 1 year over age when we drafted him from his USHL team and went straight to college. Chmelar spent one year post draft in Czechia and the season after came over to Providence College.

Personally I could see signing both but if it were just one I would probably go with Chmelar. He's 6'5 and about 230 and he can skate and he's well schooled. Was a big part of two Czech WJC teams. Laba has good size as well and has shown a penchant for getting clutch goals. The ceiling for both is probably 3rd line NHL. No doubts at all really that either wouldn't be handle the step up with physical plays in the pros. Chmelar's massive size and skating ability to me sets a little above but both might be ready for the pros right now.

Both of them should and will get NHL contracts. Not signing Laba would be a a dumb mistake and another team would quickly sign him.
