Bryce McConnell-Barker took a disgusting elbow to the head after scoring a goal against London on 12/10. He was diagnosed with a concussion and has missed the last five games including the two so far after the Christmas holiday. I haven't heard any updates on him but that's really unfortunate. He had been picking it up lately, too, in terms of production. The guy that hit him was suspended 10 games and is the son of former enforcer Eric Boulton.
Max Barbashev has 11 points in 13 games with new team Rimouski which isn't appreciably better than what he did for Shawinigan, which was 9 points in 15 games. He's shooting at a higher percentage but otherwise it's more of the same. Tough circumstances being traded twice already, but you'd hope to see a step forward this season and he's stuck in neutral (if not heading in reverse). He's still a decent bottom six prospect, but any hopes of him being something close to his brother--which were kind of silly to begin with--are all but gone. I'm not sure he's a lock for a contract at this point, which the Rangers have until this summer to offer him.
Dylan Roobroeck is having a decent season with 27 points in 31 games, although that's only slightly ahead of his pace from last season. He reminds me somewhat of Tim Gettinger although not nearly as strong, just in terms of being a big guy with decent numbers but when you watch him, you get that nagging "Is this guy anything more than a junior player?" feeling.
Over in Europe, Lauri Pajuniemi has 19 points in 28 SHL games, but that shipped has sailed. I doubt he comes back, for us or anyone. Oliver Tarnstrom has 10 points in 28 games in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden's second tier, which kind of cements the "not a prospect" label for him. He's also due a contract offer this summer or he's done in the organization. Kalle Vaisanen has 8 points in 36 games for TPS in Finland. He's still young, and doesn't play a lot, but you'd want to see something more from him. Still worth following, but he'll need to pick it up to earn a contract by summer 2025.
