I want what I want
Perreault just creates offense.
Just saying...for those who say he's just riding coattails. 4 on 3 PP for BC tonight and Leonard/Smith were on one unit and it just looked bad. Gabe comes on, same PP, separate unit, and immediately sets up Gauthier for a beautiful chance.

On tonight's stream, they mentioned that BC Coach Brown said that they began the year with those three on separate lines and then they struggled a little and then immediately realized that they should be playing together. I will say, ALL three of them are going to have to learn to be productive with other players. I don't doubt Leonard will have success. Smith will have to drop trying to do everything himself. For Gabe, as long as he has a finisher, he'll be ok at this level because his vision is elite.

Saw Karpa play tonight. Not yet on Harvard’s top pp unit. Surprisingly respectable skater, but otherwise unspectacular performance.
Yeah I've seen Karpa a few times now and I'm not really seeing it. Solid size, decent skater, works hard. Don't really see a whole lot of tools there otherwise. He was even playing as the 1C IIRC. No actual production, though.

His production this year (1-0-1 in 8 games) is ugly, but that whole team is really struggling. In either event I I'm not sure I see an NHL player there.

Gabe has moved into a tie in 4th place in overall scoring in the entire NCAA.

Just for silly stat comparison that doesn't really mean that much without context, but he's matched Kreider's freshman point total of 23 points in just 16 games, it took Kreider 39 games.

Yeah but does he have the “pace” keep up at the WJC?

Brennan Othmann, like many NYR AHL prospects, is ready for the NHL. Edstrom, Berard, Rempe, Robertson, Garand, et al., also critical to Hartford's success and deserve a look. Teams should be calling, but I think Drury wants to keep all of them. Pains in the ass to play against.
If being ready for the next level was so commonplace then why do I spend my days talking fans off the ledge who can’t fathom why their prized recruits are completely in over their heads in college.

readiness isn't really something that should be looked at from a binary perspective, it's not just black and white whether or not they can play an nhl game and look passable. the majority of players in the ahl are "ready" by that definition. there's the obvious reality of the nhl roster, where in cases without an open spot a prospect coming up not only has to look ready, or even look slightly better than a current veteran (esp if that comparison is relative to preseason competition). there's always players in othmanns position around the league...nemec in nj, stankoven and bourque in dal, kulich and rosen in buf, lysell and lohrei in bos, brandt clark in la, wright in sea, coronato in cal off the top of my head. it's more common than uncommon.

but beyond the realities of not everyone is a silver spooner that punches their ticket to the nhl lineup out of their first camp, there's the nuance of readiness. the on ice part of that is only one piece. what we don't see are these kids daily habits, how they take care of themselves, how they treat people in the org, how they take coaching, how they act in the locker room, where their level of maturity is and are they ready for the demands and responsibility of nhl life etc...i'm not saying any of these are issues with any of these players, i have no idea, but i'm saying there's a lot of variables involved in readiness that we don't see. as for on ice...none of those guys are dominating that league. if you aren't doing that, you're not going to force your way up. opportunity may arise with injuries, but there's probably 100+ other players in the ahl in their age ranges who likewise haven't gotten an opportunity at the nhl level.

personally i wanted to see othmann or berard over brodzinsky, but the guy has played well. i also get the orgs thinking beyond the obvious of brod being the best player in hfd...leave the kids in place in hfd for now, let them continue to progress in pro hockey getting bigger minutes. assuming they continue to improve i think several will get looks later in the year after the deadline. the one caveat would be othmann if he continues at his recent pace for another 10 games or so. that would probably force a callup. you can never be too ready to get called up, only good can come from them getting more time in the a. let them step into the lineup ready to thrive, not go out there trying to keep their head above water.

no one is calling because they think they belong in an nhl lineup, but it'e entirely possible some of them - or other assets in the org - will be involved in deals to bolster the nhl lineup ahead of the playoffs. so in that sense there may have already been some calls mentioning them as drury kicks the tires on potential adds.

No surprise, but both Perreault and Fortescue are on the USA WJC training camp roster. Interesting that Eisermann was not included. Top prospect for the 2025 draft was though.

Stramel was left off lol

There will be 4 cuts, likely 2 on D and 2 on F.

The main board also thought me today that Gabe having less turnovers than Smith is because Gabe isn't a play driver.

Every time I go over there I start to question every decision Ive made in my life.

I guess Panarin this year is not as much of a play driver this year as he was last year.

Honesty, if their draft positions were flipped the narrative would be flipped.

Honestly I've never felt like my team gets an unnecessary or unwarranted amount of shit before (even with the LOLmets and being a Jets fan) but HF has some irrational hatred for everything this franchise does. I'd understand it more if we were ever, you know, particularly good.

We're the only organization that the global moderators regularly allow to be referred to by a degrading nickname ('Rags') on the main boards. It's accepted practice.

That is true but this isn’t even coming from someone who is some irrational hater. If it were some NJD moron I’d get it.

He’s just a… very big tire pumper and defender of Smith LOL

I feel like the Rangers are far behind the Leafs and Oilers in that respect.

Not the main issue but salary is a consideration. Brodzinsky's cap is $100K less than Othmann. This is a team that is counting pennies to try and have some cap room at the deadline. If I were trying to work my way into the NHL and was dealing with a two way salary I would take the NHL minimum and a higher minor league salary as eliminating cap considerations for being brought up. It seemed confusing to me when over the summer Brandon Scanlin signed up for salary arbitration. But he wound up taking a lower NHL salary, slightly above the NHL minimum, and a higher minor league salary.

Even in the very recent past I had no problems with calling up any decent prospect as soon as possible and letting them learn by trial by fire. That's because Hartford f***ing sucked, as a team, as a culture and as a development system.

That's all changed now and I'm happy to keep Othmann, Edstrom, Berard, Rempe, Robertson, Garand there playing big minutes and getting opps to lead the team.

This is the right way to build and maintain a long term franchise compared to shitshows like the devils, islanders and flyers in particular which are just bone deep losers.

I get that fans are in a hurry to see their top prospects but it might be a bit early for recalling Othmann. I think there is some likelihood he'll get some games with the Rangers before the season is done though. Edstrom might be another one. But as for Brodzinksi so far he's played well and when a player is playing well and he's filling a role you stay with him. My guess is that Laviolette and his staffs biggest concerns are not seeing the kids as much as who they think is the best fit for them to continue winning games. If Brodzinski goes the next 5 or so games without doing anything much then maybe they'll revisit but for now that recall is working very well.

I’m of the opinion that many Rangers prospects in Hartford are among the AHL’s best performers this season, relative to role and usage, and NHL style of play. They execute a physical north-south game with selfless skill to boot. It’s a heck of a team and most of them were post-1st rounders, just like Callahan, Dubinsky, Sauer, Anisimov, etc in the mid-2000s. That’s the vibe I’m getting from the current group. There are future full-time NHLers down there, which is all you could ask for out a Cup contender’s system.
