Gauthier flyers pick looked pretty good.
I don't think Perreault got one shift in the ot
Yeah, but Smith only had 1 and Leonard only got on at the end there, made the pass to Gauthier. I didn't see Fortescue on for OT, but I think he was on for the goal, because he ended up a +1.

I wish they tracked TOI. It seems like Fortescue played a lot in regulation.

It's the first period of his first game in college. Can we not be hyper-critical of every little thing he does?

Roobroeck the Monkey Boy

Hilarious. Great connection. That was his character who was sticking the fork in his own eye. So they put a cork on the fork.

I know he is a wing but noticed Perreault took a faceoff in third (won it clean as well)
Rangers probably should have taken NJ native Aram Minnetian

only saw him play at the u18's and was probably my favorite player there. kid does everything well...great skater and great hockey iq. couldn't understand why he wasn't way more highly thought of going into the draft.

Friendly reminder that point totals don't mean everything in the NCAA and the jump from juniors/NDTP to NCAA can take a little.

The fact that Smith and Leonard struggled as well is a good sign. Lets not crash the car into a tree just yet...

In the exhibition college games last night, Noah Laba scored twice. No box score for the game.

Hugo Ollas might have stopped 11 of 12 and switched halfway through with Zach Borgiel.

Vic Mancini was scoreless.

Today, Lamb (Minnesota) has an exhibition game. In a game that counts, Chemlar (Providence) plays Michigan.

Gavin Brindley 1-0 Michigan. He was one of the players I wanted Rangers to draft this past NHL draft

What time is Lamb and Minnesota playing?

Mich went ahead 2-0 just 3 minutes into game,
Then late 2nd a Chmelar PP assist for 2-1
but w under 10 seconds in 2nd Mich adds 4 on 4 goal for 3-1

I watched the first two periods of the Providence game, The teams played last night and Providence looks like it is sleepwalking through the game and the Michigan big time players -- Nazer, Brinkley, McGrory, Casey -- are showing off their skill.

Chmelar had a couple of good hits and then towards the end of the 2nd period he gets a bouncing pass in the offensive zone and does a great job to corral the puck and then pass to Malinowski who scores. Chmelar showed good skill in corralling the bouncing puck in tight quarters and finding his open line mate who found the net.

Chmelar playing on right wing being centered by Brady Berard. Two former Ranger development players, Fantilli with Michigan and Lucas Kris with Providence have looked good.

Do the Rangers sign Brady Berard in the future? More depth at center couldn't hurt.

He has done literally nothing at this point to warrant any kind of pro contract. Like not even an ECHL contract. There's not really much reason to think he's going to blossom, either. We'll see in a couple of years but right now, the only thing he has going for him is being Brett's brother. If he wasn't, no one would think twice about him.

Highlight real goal from Chmelar with about 3 minutes left. Stick handling, strength and shot all in full view. Not much today from Providence but Chmelar with several good hits and several skilled plays.

He's the most underrated guy in our system.

I am a fan even if he isn't really a top 6 (or even top 9) guy. I like his profile a ton as a 4th liner and hes way better than someone like Barbashev.

Rather sign a guy like this, over AHL vets that have no future with the Rangers like Elson, Blidh, etc
Disagree with this, you need guys like Blidh to be mentors to the kids are playing professionally for the first time. Guys to show them the ropes, and while they might not be nhlers they can warrant a call up if a guy like Bonino goes down. Also most of them are usually good Ahl players so it helps the kids gain even more experience of what the playoffs would be like even in the AHL. Now granted develop should be key and these some of these guys shouldn't be playing over the Sykora's, Othmanns etc... but they add more to the team than giving a guy who can barely reach the echl an NHL contract, esp when they'll likely be better udfa out of college. If nyr want to sign him, give him an ahl deal to make his brother happy lol.

It won't take too much of that for the Wolfpack to become one of the worst teams in the AHL. There are reasons why teams sign vets for their AHL teams. One is call up depth. Others are to bring stability and competitiveness to their teams.....and for younger players it's just better to develop them in a winning atmosphere than in a losing atmosphere.

On the question of Brady Berard he's done nothing so far that merits either being drafted or signed by an NHL team. Just because his older brother was drafted and signed by the Rangers doesn't change that.

The veteran AHL players are very important for Hartford. You don't have enough or your bring in the wrong ones and it's a wasteland. We were well on our way to missing the AHL playoffs again last year until we brought in veteran reinforcements. And that run they went on was invaluable for all the kids who participated.

But anyway, even if you don't care about the AHl vets, Brady Berard is unlikely at this point to even become one of those. He's just a name that's attached to Brett. Otherwise he'd be anonymous random college player and that's it.

So you've rather have a shitty team in Hartford that never makes the playoffs, just so we can sign guys that have virtually no chance of ever being NHL players. Solid strategy.
