If we don’t make the playoffs it’ll be PIT, TOR or MTL that ends our season. Or a combination of them. And that’s a sad thing.

So what are the alternatives then? Spend 5-7 years trying to get to the playoffs, make it teo/three times just to loose in the first round and then starting the rebuild? That's the Minnesota's way. Never bad enough to have a chance at MacKinnon, McDavid, Matthews, never good enough to contend. And this lasts for eternity for them.

We were bad enough to get top talent, we got Raymond and Seider and Edvinsson, all of which are already quite good or getting there. Which proves my point, we can be bottom 1 bad, and not get McDavid and Matthews and MacKinnon which by the way are the absolute high end of what you could ever hope for at the top of the draft. More drafts than not have Hischier and RNH level players at the top. The alternative is actually waiting until the past 2-3 years worth of picks are actual NHL players and seeing what we have. If in 3 years time Kasper and Danielson aren't trending well, and no surprises happen, then you think about restarting. Yzerman never said this year was playoffs or bust, and I legit don't think he thinks Copp or Compher level players are the guys that will help us win eventually. They simply gives us NHL level forwards so we don't crap the bed everynight, while youngsters trickle in. Competing for a playoff spot and losing is still better than having lets say 10-15 less pts and there being no reason for the players to care about games at the end. One of the reasons Buffalo has been bad so long is they are constantly out of it earlier than they want and players start getting complacent and thinking about their offseason plans rather than caring about winning.

Should more kids be in our lineup, sure, but Ed, Berggren and maybe AlJo are the only ones doing what could be called knocking the door down. Kasper seems like he is improving but not quite yet. You want to give up already, before we even see most of the picks do anything. If that is how you view things, Yzerman could sell off everything and in 4-5 years you would be annoyed at him again because things aren't going well.

If you are waiting for our McDavid, or Matthews or MacKinnon level player, then enjoy the wait.

I don't think building the team is a linear project. The plan is to just keep making the team/organization incrementally better. Some years we will see the improvements on the ice at LCA, some years it will be in GR/Europe. Best years it will be both.

You want to dump us hard back into the lottery, but 2/3 of the guys you listed have won as much as Minny has. And then there are other stories like Buffalo and Ottawa who are perpetually rebuilding despite where they have drafted.

well I guess that point means the Wings can still pass Pittsburgh if they go 3-0 and Pittsburgh goes 2-1

but the Wings even winning both games against Montreal feels like such a stretch right now

Well, it sucks that the playoffs are probably flying away... but this whole last week has been playoff intensity. Yeah, it's not a playoff series, but every single trip down the ice is important and Raymond is thriving. Seider has a lot of work to do.

Ya seider makes some poor decisions sometimes. I hate his back hand flip that he always does and the other team just gets the puck. Or tonight he should have challenged at the blue line instead of backing off. I really think Edvinsson is a better overall dman and the coaches should stop being wimps and give him a chance on the pp that has sucked lately.

Without the loser point it would be basically over.

He went back to retrieve a puck behind his own goal, Chiarot made himself an obvious option in the corner, and Mo inexplicably made a move instead under pressure, got double teamed on the boards and ended up give the Pens possession. Why? Make the simple play.

Lost to Penguins 5-6 (ot), playoff odds down 4.1 to 37%
85 points 38 32-9

If DET goes 2-1-0, to pass them…

NYI need 1 point in 3 games
PIT need 3 points in 3 games
WSH needs 4 points in 3 games
PHI needs 4 points in 2 games

I agree I saw that too. Or he just wraps the puck along the boards on the right side and gives it away. Lots. I think seider is good but I don't think he's as flawless as red wings fans think. I think ed is a smarter player, more smooth and over time will take over the number 1 spot on our team.

I’ve never seen a collapse as bad as this in 50 plus years of watching hockey.

Detroit has been one of the very worst teams in the league since March. The coaching staff and management have to look at themselves in the mirrors and blame themselves for this.

I can’t help but wonder how much this team would have been helped by upgrading the D with one or two pieces at the TDL.

As abjectly horrific as this stretch has been… that is amazingly good odds

I honestly feel we are playing only slightly worse than we actually are right now, and were playing way above ourselves in January and February. Way too many passengers for Jan/Feb to be what we actually are.

I’m the opposite. January/February were hot months but they looked like what this team could be if they adhered to the system and paid attention to detail. They played like a TEAM those months. Since the Kostin trade they look rudderless.

Detroit wasn’t going to be a 50 win team this year. I have no illusion about that, but 95-100 points was within the realm of possibility. They pissed away so many games though.

Fans are like this:

Month ago: we just need to win "our" games and we are fine;
Week ago: we just need to win against Washington and Pittsburgh and we are fine;
Today: we just need Washington and Pens to loose their remaining games and we are fine;
Week from now: golfing....

And yet 90% of fans see "a lot of positives".

The truth is this team blew it at multiple levels.

I mean....the bar for making the Playoffs is just super low this year so those are somehow all true

the Wings have had an awful run but will be right on the cusp of making the Playoffs in spite of it because everyone else has also done badly enough that the bar for making it is like.....90 points
