Rutherford was on TSN Overdrive earlier today and the hosts started talking trades and about how Rutherford tended to like making his deadline deals really early and Rutherford made a joke that he may have something before All-Star game weekend stealing Bettman's thunder and started laughing. If they get Tanev too that's a awfully good D assembled. Big and deep with a true stud No. 1 QB'ing everything. Top goalie too.

He never signed extension though I read and not sure Canucks cap next season anyways.Would be good to know that option is there in off season cause there will not be many.

Vancouver is going all in for it this year. Who is Marchand going to use as a punching bag this time around in the SCF?
idk if I'd classify that as an overpay, but it's an absolute haul and I'm very glad it wasn't the bruins paying it.
I like that a lot for Vancouver. Thus, I hate it.
Maybe a bit. Vancouver is close and they know it.

Vancouver should at least hold onto #1 seed which they need because there are only 6 good teams in the west and each of them probably smokes Van in the first round. They desperately need to not end up playing the Knights, Avs, Stars, Jets, or Oil until at least the second round.
They have no bad contracts other than the OEL buyout and it seems like guys want to be there and might take decent deals and they are young. Lots of guys to resign but they should fit most.

Solid haul for Calgary. Doesn't feel absurd on Vancouver's part but a fair bit to give up nonetheless. As always prices are high at this time of year and it's interesting to see this one go intra-division. The 'Nucks sense their time is now and are going for it. Can't fault them for that. Highly likely they're not done yet either.
