Lol. To hell with defense and goaltending up in T Dot. I will not complain.
You and me both. Hell, I hope they pay Nylander more than they have reported. And give Matthews, Marner, and Tavares a cost of living adjustment bump as well!!!!

I'd take Bergy or Zee as an analyst over Subban. Yes, most people would say they're boring. Whatever. They need guys who have actual hockey IQ if the goal is actually to analyze the game.

The list of former players I'd rather have in-studio doing analysis compared to Mr. Subban is very long.

I'm not picking on Subban here. Ray Bourque is my all-time favorite player. Sportsnet had Bourque in-studio briefly doing some quick analysis while he was in Toronto for the Hall of Fame. He looked like a dear in the headlights. Still better than Subban but it's not for everyone. Zee or Bergy might be fantastic at it.

I'm a fan of Bieksa and another analyst I've taken to is Luke Gazdic who is working the "B Nights" like Mondays for Sportsnet.

Good move for Toronto you don't let a game-breaking talent like Nylander leave in his prime.

I absolutely despised Scott Stevens as a player, but as an analyst or whatever the few times I saw him on NHL Network I was quite impressed.

I know I'm generalizing and theres alot of time till next season but they will have about 32 million to fill 10 roster spots.

The move over the last couple of seasons, IMO, should have been to find a way to parlay Marner or Nylander into a similar level defenseman (And probably a useful other piece or two).

The only thing that the Nylander contract does is make it even harder to improve their back and and goaltending.

Obviously, every signing is only relevant to the time it’s signed, but just for comparison…..the Bruins are playing Lindholm, JDB, and Frederic about the same as they’ll pay Nylander next season.

Mike Rupp is excellent too.

The move with smart move with Nylander for oh....5 years, has been to move him for defenseman.

He's a good player, but committing that much cap to 4 forwards is just banana land level shit.

Observing the lineups/lines across the league, the majority of teams have non-distinct third and fourth lines. In addition, there is little consistency year to year. Depth players bounce around to make room for prospects auditioning for The Show.

Lazar, Heinen, Acciari, etc.

I'm not supporting the Leafs' top-heavy approach. It hasn't worked yet, but that doesn't mean it can't. The Leafs with either Ullmark or Swayman would be a real threat.

Taveras comes off the books after next season, and their young forwards will still be in their prime. Plus, the cap will be going up.

Letting a player of Nylander's caliber walk would've been a huge mistake, and I don't know that a trade that actually made them better was on the table.

The formula for winning has been a 1C, a 1D, and a 1G. The Leafs are 1-for-3; but Adin Hill proves just how unpredictable the goalie position is.

So we'll see. I just don't see the Nylander signing as doomsday for Toronto.

It’s too much, but at least Nylander is damn good. This is the sort of contract that reeks of desperation, which is funny since Toronto isn’t desperate for stud forwards.

At the end of the day, I like this, for selfish reasons. Life is better when Toronto ignores the two things that win championships: defense and goaltending

They’re so similar to the Oilers. I just don’t understand how for years both teams have had issues on defense and with goaltending but instead of addressing it they just do they exact opposite and think they can score their way out of trouble.

This kid is gonna take a beating in Philly yikes
