Those are questions, not statements.

You said “so far he looks like his old self” is that not safe for me assume you're basing that on the 2 intersquad games he's played in?

I'm not not trying to put words in your mouth, I'm asking you to clarify what you said.
Youre trying to dishonestly paint my opinion as ridiculous because "Its only two intra squad games" or what ever.

My point is that, as of today, he hasnt shown he should be in the NHL.

But it IS only two intra squad games.

I don't think you're opinion is ridiculous because based on what I watched, I'm inclined to agree.

However, I think the fact it IS 2 intra squad games, doesn't it make that evaluation premature?

Would you pencil in Jared Davidson in the lineup on account of what you've seen over 2 intra squad games, given he's scored 4 goals?

I imagine you wouldn't.
My point is that, as of today, he hasnt shown he should be in the NHL.
I get that's your point, but I think that has more to do with the expectation we all have for a 1st overall pick more than anythung…and again, I get it. I'm not going to sit up here and say he’s been amazing.

But I think we have to at least give him the training camp to measure up against what we saw last year and where he's at today.

Id say Davidson should be pencilled above Slaf so far, yes. So far. As of now. From what weve seen.

The point is unless hes amazing he better ride the f***ing bus

Lots people here rather looking to trade mailloux ?? and putting Hutson on first or second pairing

I’m one of those that thinks Hutson transition as a defender might not translate well to nhl. Sorry

Rather keep mailloux and trade Hutson. Lots of love for Hutson. We will see in a year or 2

Mailloux brings more to the nhl.

Yes, we should get rid of Hutson, he's too small, you're right.

Let's bring in John Parker Jones instead, he's a big boy @ 6ft7.

That’ll be the excuse until Cooley, Nemec and also Wright starts putting it together. The it will become that drafting a player with a lack of hockey Iq just because he had a good tournament was a mistake.
At their peak they won't be anything special. Slaf could be.

He never said anything about size.

How about we keep both of them

Wether or not Slafkovsky makes it as a superstar (I think he won't) doesn't change the fact that is was a VERY WEAK draft for the high end. Wright and Cooley (Nemec) will not be in the Crosby/Ovechkin/McDavid discussion either.

I'd agree that Slafkovsky is the most boom or bust of them all. IF he were to develop to his max potential, he'd be the most special player out of them 4.

The both have humongous potential, and humongous weaknesses. Let's see where they go.

If everything went 100% as good as it can, a top 4 of
Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Mailloux
has the potential to be INSANE.

Or both Hutson and Mailloux might not make it there, and Guhle might be injury prone, and we might be F'ed. We'll see.

1. You don't know that.
2. We were not drafting a dman
1. Keep being in denial. Nemec and Jiricek have potential to be top 2 Dmen but you argue they would have been picked after Danielson and Leonard ? Good joke.
2. And yet MTL did the very next year. Taking a winger at 1OA was risky, let s see if it pays off. we may regret not having Nemec / Michkov in a few years time. Don t get me wrong I like Reinbacher, but Nemec is such a smart player and good skater it is insane.

The day Slafkovsky does something to justify his draft hype and reputation is the day many Habs fans will be relieved and ready to trust him

Until then, I guess some “Habs fans” (in reality I doubt they’re fans, more like pundits) have to just suck it up and deal with the fact many actual fans simply want to see a good team with good players and hate the notion of tanking and especially tanking in order to draft a lame player with the 1OA. So let’s hope Slafkovsky shows something worthwhile soon.

Why are we trading either of them right now?

Hutson will play NHL games at the end of the year. Mailloux may play some depending on how his defensive game comes along and if there's injuries.

One thing is for sure they aren't trading either of them right now. But I'd be more comfortable trading Mailloux because Hutson right now is our best bet as a legitimate superstar player.

Defensive deficiencies or size be damned, this might be the guy who brings everybody up a level production wise because of what he can do on the ice.

We probably should. But something will have to give and at some point we'll have to trade some of our D because we have too many of them, and then at another point if Reinbacher, Hutson, Matheson, Mailloux, and Guhle become what we think they'll become, we'll have to trade some of them due to the salary cap. So at some point we probably have to identify a big 3 and use the other 2 as trade chips to bolster the offense.

That point is not now. It's too early. But when players like Zegras become available, do you trade Mailloux for Zegras if that's the ask? What about Slaf? Hard questions given our need for size.
