I am shocked. Talk of Roy in the NHL already begun.
How unexpected

1- It's one thing to look good in scrimmage games
2- It's another thing to look good in preseason games
3- It's a whole other thing to look good in actual NHL games.
4- It's a whole whole other thing to look good for 82+ NHL games

Roy is at step one like any other prospects in this camp.

We shouldn't be talking about any prospects making the team or not from what we've seen so far as it was meaningless hockey.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Definitely needs to show it in preseason games. Either way, he’s looking like a quick call-up. Kent should be working OT to get rid of deadweight that can’t be bothered to try hard like Dvorak and Armia.

All line combos are projections at this point. No one has a crystal ball.

Last season, whoever projected Guhle, Harris, and Xhekaj to be on the roster opening night was right. And whover projected RD Barron was wrong. Hughes had to go out and get Kovacevic because Barron wasn't ready.

After two days of scrimmages, anybody in danger of losing their ice time? Who's on the hot seat???
I think last season they started cuts the day after the red white game. Only four players to begin with. I'm wondering if we get steeper cuts initially this year with the shorter pre-season schedule.

Especially with getting Pearson

Heineman hasn't looked all that great so far either certainly not good enough to force anyone's hand.

Guys I'm really curious if they make the team:
Evans
Gallagher
Armia
Pezzetta
Slafkovsky
Ylonen
RHP
Pearson
Farrell

Lindstrom
Kovacevic
Xhekaj
Harris
Barron

And then all the young guys who haven't played NHL yet. It should be fun to watch. I think there might be a few surprises.

To start the season I'd like to see:

Caufield - Suzuki - Pearson
Newhook - Dach - Anderson
RHP - Monohan - Slaf
Pezetta - Evans - Gally
Armia

If Slaf does really well I'd switch him with Pearson after say 20 good games.

So far?

We’ve played games?

I know you ain't talking about some red/white scrimmage.

And that has to happen not even before he’s played a full season’s worth of games?
You need to stop trying to read between the lines. Most of the disagreements we ever had were directly because you put words in my mouth.

Not me. I'm looking for breakout seasons from Caufield and Suzuki and people keep suggesting we feed them with tertiary players like Tanner Pearson or the still raw rookie Juraj Slafkovsky. One has a career high of 45 points and the other just managed to hit double digits. How is this supposed to help us establish a veritable top 6?

There's no way Gallagher doesn't make this team out of camp. NO WAY. Unfortunately.

At some point Hughes will have to do something about him and his contract, but that's probably not before the end of next season.

Thats what we should start with. None of these young guys are ready this year. Roy can maybe take spot on the 4th but thats about it. Barron can maybe fill on 3rd pair also but thats it.

That’s not even questionable, Gally start the year in the top 12

Those are questions, not statements.

You said “so far he looks like his old self” is that not safe for me assume you're basing that on the 2 intersquad games he's played in?

I'm not not trying to put words in your mouth, I'm asking you to clarify what you said.

Agreed with for the forwards, if Pearson is healthy. Your D pairings are messed up though, you got a bunch of guys on their off sides.

Matheson - Barron
Guhle - Lindstrom
Xhekaj - Savard
Kova
Harris

We really need to trade quantity for quality eventually. And we need Mailloux to make this team as a regular as RD next year.

Not that Anderson. Andersson the Swede, Gorton drafted high while in NY
He looked good. He has some jam in his game.

He is worthy of a spot in my opinion but we simply have too many bottom sixers.

I would prefer him to Evans personally but i doubt we can ditch Evans.

He's a first overall pick, he shouldn't look average or even below average, they have every right to be disappointed. I know I know, there's the whole big forwards take longer to develop but I just don't see the IQ there for him to reach star status and I haven't once yet.

Ya, no. It makes absolutely 0 sense to criticize a player because of a couple of scrimmages. Especially one that hasn't played hockey in 8 months.
