Kirby showed right off the bat in his rookie season that he was a special player.
Start at 1:20.

Have you ever seen Slafkovsky pull anything close to this? Not only is Dachs skill level higher, but so is his tangible result on the ice.

Dach is a good example that we should be patient with our players, no matter the size, Slaf is a good example of how not to develop a player and that burying your head in the sand isnt the way to go.

I can pull highlight reel goals from
Nail Yakupov’s rookie year too.

And?

Yakupov did that and busted, slaf hasn't even done what Yakupov did.

I think the idea is to be concerned.

However, Slaf was never considered to be that skilled, just a... Unicorn. 6'4 ,220lbs winger who can fly and has a lethal shot is rare and that's why he was taken 1st overall.

So we should be concerned with Slafkovsky because he hasn't scored a highlight reel goal yet?

and Jack Hughes was awful in his D+1 season. And Slaf had highlights too.

Most of these arguments either way are frankly stupid. Slaf was and is a project 1st OA pick from a relatively weak draft class. He was always going to take time and he hasn't even been as bad as people make him out to be. Slaf could be a dominant winger. He could flame out. He will likely fall somewhere in-between. But the way people talk about him and judge him, they should probably be just as worried about Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Guhle, etc.

It feels like people don't understand what happens in rebuild and just want to go back to being a veteran plucky underdog team that can win one or two upset rounds once or twice a decade.

I think the idea is we should not draw any conclusion from a player D+1

Part of me still want to see Slav with Monohan on a 3rd line. Slav need to earn his top 2 line time and he needs a good vet to teach him the game.

Base on training camp thus far:

CC-Suzuki-RHP
Newhook - Dach - Anderson
Slav-Monohan-Heineman
Pearson - Evan - Gally

I was clearly joking.

You ain't built for a rebuild man.
You know that me questioning the decisions they make doesnt mean I cant be patient, lol. Im patient with every single prospct, I just dont choose to blindly follow grown men because they wear the right colors.

The main point is that Slaf shouldnt be in the NHL, he should be in lower leagues, actually developping, making progress.

Im thinking the actual ones that arent made for a rebuild are the ones that need the instant gratiticatiok of seeint a prospect in the NHL when theyre not ready.

Fair but I disagree on if he's ready for the NHL.

I think you're looking at it through the lens of what a 1st overall pick “should “ look like but I couldn't careless where he was picked anymore.

If he looks like shit at this camp, I'll advocate for him starting in Laval.

If he shows progress from last year, I'll advocate for him starting in Montreal.

So far hes looked like his usual self.

The realisation of his true potential is probably directly linked to his development path, like 99.99% of prospects, hes a 1OA, hes an insane investment. He needs to return the most possible. Just being a good player shouldn't cut it.

I'm more impressed with Xhekaj getting the hit in the corner than the goal. It's just a shot most top-6 NHLers on contending teams should be able to take, he had time and space.
Yup, I was talking about the sequence as a whole

That’s what I hope to see Matty try for at least one pre-season game (based on what I’ve seen so far):

Caufield-Suzuki-RHP
Newhook-Dach-Anderson
Slafkovsky-Monahan-Roy
Pearson-Evans-Gally
HS: Armia and one of Pezz/Ylonen

let Heineman marinate a bit more with Laval and call him up if injuries stack up
