2023-2024 EPL Season

I have no issue agreeing that it's more than a bit problematic. I also note that there are a lot of lower level clubs that do need the influx of money, talent, and support that could come from a relationship.

It's sad, but there's only so many dollars to go around, especially as they're increasingly gobbled up further up the pyramids. I'm all for the local clubs keeping identities, but I do see the tangible benefit for Liverpool. It's not perfect, but as a fan of baseball and the farm system process, I don't have as many issues with developing players for the top team either.

The difference here is that North American minor league systems are specifically created for that.

Strasbourg in Ligue 1 and Girona in Liga are not minor league systems. They're pro teams at the highest level of their pyramids who don't belong to where they come from anymore in the service of another club in another country. It's anti-competitive and antithetical to the spirit of sports and community to the core.

There's no good way to do this. And I never want to hear any fan of such parent clubs crying about reffing calls when their clubs are pressing their fingers on the balance as heavily across the continent.

In terms of the Hojlund discussion, I am not surprised. He's been bloody good, he's making me a believer of him as well, but remember that at the time he had like 7 goals on the entire season, spending 70+ million for that is a balls-on-the-table level of risk investment. Remember, he had fewer goals than Balogun.

Don't think I understand. Are you talking about Hojlund?

So based on an article I was reading in the Athletic today, it's actually a matter of when, not if, Liverpool starts the multiclub ownership.

I used to like that club. Now I hope a nuke drops on Anfield. Club of rats.

Yep, it was reported that one of the main conditions on Michael Edwards returning to FSG was the adaptation of a multi-club model.

Speaking of…

Edwards assembling his team.

There are some whispers that the second club may be based in South America. If w the case getting someone from the City/Benfica tree is a great place to start

I know it's still relatively recent, but has the multi-club model even had any success stories aside from Red Bull? Potentially City with Savio, but for now that's still just getting potential on a discount for the main club.

I think it’s likely that with a Portuguese side to get kids into Europe. Whether full deal or working relationship

We know they’ve scouted / had discussions with S America in the past. Lot of Brazilian clubs that could fit the bill. Put their technical development program there, move them to Portugal and up the ladder.

Man City is not just Girona. But yes, it is working fine for them.

I would add Bayern to the list. They own all other german teams. Same situation with PSG in France. :sarcasm:

yeah that is a very solid hire. Getting a solid South American base can be very useful.

Portugal seems one of the best leagues for this, but not sure what team FSG would want? highly doubtful that any of the big three (Sporting, Porto, Benfica) would go for it.

Can't wait to see which fans get to lose their clubs now.
I think it really depends on the model of "multi-club" ownership that is seen. The City model is not ideal for a lot, but an agreement for sharing scouting knowledge and a working relationship can be beneficial for both sides.

Perfect opportunity for the other Liverpool in Uruguay.
I've always wondered if that would ever materialize.

Updating my Team of the Season going into the international break. And because I am bored at the airport

Going for 2000 minute minimum to narrow down the field a bit. You don’t have to if you don’t want to

Player of the Season - Virgil Van Dijk
Manager of the Season - Jurgen Klopp

GK Pickford
RB White
CB Saliba
CB Virgil
LB Robinson
CM Rodri
CM Rice
CM Odegaard
RW Saka
LW Foden
ST Watkins

They wouldn’t want a top 3 side. Too expensive, though some of them likely have debt and would look for a portioned buyout if we were honest. Say, they could buy 30-35 percent of one. Then use that relationship for both.
