I posted about it somewhat recently, but now I'm really intrigued by what Army is thinking for the HC. I think Bannister finishes the season without another HC being named, unless there is a can't miss guy that we can't wait on, although that probably would've happened by now if that was the case. If the team doesn't revert back to terrible hockey, does Bannister get the job in a similar way that Davis Payne got it or do we still aim higher to get the best possible candidate in the door.

I certainly don't want Bannister to leave the organization though. He's probably positioned himself to get some sort of NHL job.

A win against Columbus Tuesday would guarantee that we are still in a playoff spot when we play our first game coming out of the all star break and bye week on 2/10. There are a few bubble teams with multiple games played in that stretch, but none would be able to pass us. Didn't see that coming a couple weeks ago.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see them lose all these next three games to teams below them in the standings.

We're on a win streak but the only team we really outplayed were the Caps. We got good goaltending and scored timely goals and gutted out some wins against teams which were clearly better, and you need to do that sometimes, but it's still hard for me to believe we've really turned a corner as a team.

It does feel like we're playing more as a team who may know we're not as talented as others but still wants to win so I give Bannister credit and I'll be rooting for them to make the playoffs. Hopefully the wheels don't fall off. Actually outplaying these teams in the next few matches would certainly give me some confidence.

from Dom:

"The St. Louis Blues are still a weak five-on-five team (they’re third last in expected goals percentage since their coaching change), but vintage Jordan Binnington may be enough to mitigate that. He’s been on fire in the new year with a .930 save percentage, saving 14 goals above expected. That’s second to only Stuart Skinner.

Binnington’s return to form has the Blues riding an 8-4-1 record in 2024, straight into the West’s final wild-card spot. That’ll be tough to maintain given the club’s weaknesses, but if Binnington is up to the challenge and keeps up this torrid pace, the Blues have a real shot."

I haven't been into ASG weekend since Lemieux went 3-3-6 in St. Louis. OK, maybe the first few years in the 90s where they had a skills competition because it truly was "who are the league's best" instead of it being confined to the selected All-Stars or the selected All-Stars + 3-6 select others. Maybe the first year they did the fantasy draft, cause ... just interesting to see how that was done. I haven't watched anything on it since we hosted it, and even that I was in/out of the skills competition and caught maybe 5 minutes of the ASGs.

I'm at the point where I still could care less, but it's taking more effort to do so.

Just saw a quote online from Petr Nedved, who is the GM of the Czech national team for the upcoming world championships in the Czech Republic. The google translation is a bit rough, but the main point is that he isn't expected to be chosen for the team.

We had a debate about him with the coaches. Under the condition of enforceability and the other side of the matter, we would be interested in it. But now it is a situation that he is not a player who will represent us at the WC.

Rough for Vrana if he can't even make the WC roster, which isn't exactly the best of the best.

Simon Robertsson is leaving the SHL, and will be playing in Allsvenskan the rest of the season.

He will be playing for the same team as Theo Lindstein, Brynäs IF.

Likely, but we had 8 d. Even without Peru didn’t need to recall Rosen unless another issue. Maybe Faulk still out or ???
Yeah, I'd assume Perunovich is due to at least miss some amount of games, and Faulk is still hurt. Faulk's "return" was pretty bad, so I'm guessing he either came back to early or re-aggravated his injury.

The other issue is that our D sucks and Rossen is the 5th best D in our system. That's not a huge compliment to Rosen. Our D are just awful after the top 3.

If I'm trying to win a game, I'd rather play Rossen than Tucker, Kessel, Perunovich or Krug. Being in a playoff spot, maybe we are prioritizing winng over developing mediocre D prospects.

Damn. And the team gets a little bit better. Good for Calle. He deserves an NHL paycheck. But I want to lose for lottery.
if we give rosen d-zone starts, should really help with the lottery pick. he's good in the o-zone tho, you're right about that.

He's better in the D-zone than Krug, Perunovich, and Tucker. Too soon to tell on Kessel.
he gets walked like tucker does and burned on the inside too much for me to agree there, i assumed that's why he spent most of the year in the AHL, because we've seen that happen too many times with him. he's reliable once the puck's on his stick though. as much as i don't like krug, rosen isn't better than him in any zone.
