Dont love that he's back at a level he's too good for.

I don't think he is, last year when they sent Zavragin to the VHL to be the backup, they still sent him down to the MHL a couple of times to get in games. Unless the VHL club has made a trade, Volokhin should be the backup and hopefully can steal more time from the vet they have.

Lets hope that's true! I'd rather less games started but against better competition.

As the KHL season unfolds and Demidov had a great start, I have included him in my top 10 U23 KHL prospects to follow in the 2024-2025 campaign.

Check it out:

Quoting from the Demidov thread, but wanted to take the opportunity to ask if you had opinions on our other notable Russian prospects, namely Volokhin and Khanin ? (thread linked if you want to say your piece there)

We technically also have Sobolev and Kostenko, but we don't have much hope for them on this board.

Thank you for your input!

I will watch a few other games and report back. I do like Khanin a lot.
Remind me if I do not

Volokhin backing up today, no surprise as he did not do well with his start.

they went with their 3rd goalie to start this one so their vet gets the day off but then he likely gets the next start I would think. Maybe they will send him down for a MHL game soon. Last year they sent the flyers 3rd round pick, Yegor Zavragin to the MHL throughout the season. He would go down and play a game and then go back up. Played 9 games in the MHL vs 17 as the backup in the VHL.

I wonder if they felt he needed to either build up his confidence a bit or just get him some work but surprised he got back to back games in the MHL so we'll see if he sticks around or goes back to the VHL after this. After his rough 1st career VHL start where he gave up 4 goals on 17 shots, he's now played 3 games in the VHL and has given up 3 goals on 87 shots.

Unofficial but sounds like Volokhin has signed a 3 year deal with Sochi, his new KHL team. No word on what they plan on doing with him.

Exactly why I wanted him over next summer.

Does fix some logjam issues though.

Don't love the length at 3 years, but thankfully we don't need him urgently.

It's for this year, and then the next 2, so it ends after the '26-'27 season. I don't have any issues with him developing in Russia. I assumed Fowler will be in Laval by April so no sense in having both as I'd rather have a vet back up Fowler and then we'll see what happens with Volokhin over time. I've been really impressed with him though I struggle with goalies. Though he did just give up maybe the worst goal i've seen from him, although to be fair I tried slowing it down but I couldn't tell if it got deflected or he was just too slow with the glove.

Will be very interesting to see how Sochi handles him since they clearly have a starter and a young backup.

This probably means Volokhin will be in the VHL, which is HK Rostov.

we'll see what they do as right now HK Rostov has 3 goalies. Elite prospects has had Volokhin on Sochi's roster as the 3rd goalie so I assume for now he's going to be in the KHL but who knows as info out of Russia is always hard to come by. They could send him back to the MHL for all we know.

Not sure what Sochi's plan is with Volokhin. He has yet to play a single game for them or any of their affiliates in the VHL and MHL. His last game was on October 7th. Unless he's injured, he's currently in limbo.
