Hopefully, Omsk doesn't send one of their 3 goalies down. Maybe then he'll get VHL games.

Zavragin getting scooped up by SKA helps him a lot.
KHL, the sKA Hockey League. Seriously, is there more than one team there? Even Sochi is just the farm team for SKA's rejects.

SKA hasn't won the Gagarin Cup since 2017. In that time, it has been won by:
AK Bars (18)
CSKA 3 times (19,22,23)
Avangard Omsk (21)
Metallurg Magnitogorsk (24)
Yeah I know, but anytime an ex NHLer signs somewhere, it is SKA.

edit: unless he is bad.

Despite Zavragin being bad and Popov being terrible.. Russia U23 is going with Popov today and Zavragin back-up, so Volokhin is firmly G3 and won't see any net there for the Puchkov tournament.

This is really ‘interesting’ to me in the sense that zagravin was always preferred by wtv teams they played together when compared to Volokhin even if Volokhin had the better stats. Do we think this is just Russian politics at play or any other underlying personality/character issues with Volokhin?

Volokhin emerged later, he's kind of a hidden gem that is starting to get his name and reputation up in Russian hockey. Even in North America, most scouts and media aren't that aware of him yet.

So it's more reputation/political based. Zavragin was a higher draft pick than Volokhin and has been known as a top goalie prospect in Russia longer than Volokhin, so therefore you'll go with the guy they know more about than the upstart kid.

Him being part of the roster is a great step forward for his reputation, but that's really it. Don't think it has any character concern at all.

They just dont have the same path. Stats seems like comparable but Volokhin did it in Juniors when Zav did it on a upper level. Its actually more than normal to have better expectations on the Flyers prospects. Both goalies are good looking.
