Volokin started a 2nd game in a row. And it's the 3rd game in a row he plays in. The third one, he came in relief.

Sochi lost all 3 games. But Volokhin's stats in those 3 games are very encouraging.

Wednesday in relief, he made 15 saves on 16 SOG for a .938 SV%.
Friday, he made 31 saves on 33 SOG for a .939 SV%.
And today, he made 37 saves on 40 SOG for a .925 SV%.
If he can keep that up in the K then he’d have to rival Fowler for top goaltending prospect

Whatever happened to the family of Pitlickers we had in our system? Are they all out of Pitlickers now?
Tyler, after being acquired in the Toffoli deal wasn't re-signed.

Rem was in the 3 way deal and ended up in Pittsburgh and now he's somewhere else.

Rhett, the Habs have released his rights.

Rhett's goal will likely be played in top goal hockey highlights, so he's got that.

Volokhin has started two games in a row, and the third game, he came in relief.

All 3 games were losses, but his numbers are real good:

1: 15 saves on 16 SOG for a .938 SV% (game he came in relief)
2: 31 saves on 33 SOG for a .939 SV%
3: 37 saves on 40 SOG for a .925 SV%
Are these KHL or VHL or NHL?

Some pretty impressive stats, especially for a 19 year old. Surprised he isn't getting more hype.

I hyped him a lot last year, he was unbeatable in the MHL. The brass see him favorably as well.

This year has been weird since he only got a few VHL games and had trouble there. Then got traded to Sochi and only really appeared in relief.

Lately he's played and seems like he's catching up to the speed and talent of the league. He will get plenty of shots and defensive breakdowns on Sochi.

Can afford to let him cook slowly in Russia.

Rem Pitlick was traded from Pittsburgh to Chicago and is currently playing for their AHL team.
Rhett Pitlick rights were relinquished and he transferred to Minnesota State University.
Tyler Pitlick is on an AHL deal with the Providence Bruins.

Volokhin with 29 saves on 30 SOG for a .967 SV%. It's so good to see him put up real good stats in the KHL.

Khanin had 0 pts and 1 SOG. But the key part in his game is that he played just under 7 minutes, which is by far his most TOI in the KHL. That's a lot when you consider that the 3 other games he got on the ice for, he tallied less than 2 minutes each time.

First KHL win?

No. He has yet to win a game. They lost 2-0 today. But 1 of the 2 goals was an empty netter. But, he's still doing well regardless. In 6 out of the 11 games he's played, he had a SV% above .900.

His SV% the last 6 games:

.938
.939
.925
.881
.957
.967

Lol let in one goal and lost. Know that game.

I've said how i struggle with goalies but I think Hab fans are making a mistake not paying more attention to him. He struggled this year but I suggested that it could have been due to the lack of consistent playing time. Last year he played a freaking ton so it could be difficult to go from that to how it unfolded this year.

He did look terrible in his first ever VHL start, I don't know what went wrong but I heard he looked good in the previous VHL game where he entered the game in the final minute of the 2nd period. After that they sent him back to juniors for about 6 games of TOI where he put up his usual #'s and then was traded.

He last played in juniors on 10-7, then was traded to his KHL team. If you don't count his 3 games with the National Junior team for a tournament, from Oct 8th to Nov 28th, he made just 2 starts and appeared in just 3 games (he entered one game with under 5 mins in the 2nd)

Since 11-29 he's had 5 starts, and appeared in 8 games (3 games he was brought in during 2nd period, so under 90 mins total) but his #'s are looking much better. So in just over 6 games, he's stopped 210 of 229 shots which is a .917 save %.

So the question is, can he keep up this level if he keeps getting TOI. If you look at the KHL's history for U-20 goalies, IIya Samsonov leads the way in save % all time at .936 in 27 games (cut off is say at least 20 gms played or he would be 2nd but that goalie only played in 13 gms) 2nd on the list is his teammate Ivanov (jackets) with a .930 in 36 gms followed by Andrei Vasilevsky who had a .923 in 28 gms tied with the Flyers pick Zavragin (former teammate of Volokhin) who had a .923 in 24 gms.

A .917 save % over the full season would be 5th best all time for a U-20 goalie in the KHL with at least 20 gms played.

I think it was also just shifting levels for the first time.. I know whenever I went up a level or better talent got into my leagues and raised the level, it took some adjustment. There were things you could get away with at the lower level that you can't get away with, so once you get exposed on it a couple times, you go oh, okay, that has to go away and I have to adapt to that.

In terms of pure tools, I'd say he's actually above Dobes. It would not surprise me if he is the best goaltender of the bunch when all is said is done. I know Basu/Godin said that there were some in the organization who felt that way about him.
