Hughes has been hard to handle at times at the blue line at even strength.

On the PP, Hughes has done a nice job of distributing passes. They’ve had nice weight and direction.

Man, Luke faked the shot really nice on that Bordeleau goal. The Swiss forward really bought it.

What a hilarious short handed sequence. Takes the puck for a rush then gets back to disrupt the entry and clears the puck down the ice

Hughes makes attacking from the point look easy right now.

Will he walk the blue line? Will he skate down the boards? Will he pass? Will he shoot?

Someone trying to defend Hughes 1 on 1 is really put at risk.

What a sick play. Fakes a guy out at the blue line to get around him and sends a pass to the slot for a one timer. Should've had another primary

He could definitely play in the NHL this season. I can't imagine what he'll look like with another year of development. Thank God he's in NCAA because it would be tempting to rush him.

We pretty much all expect him to play after Michigan’s season. Kind of like Makar did. An extra year in Michigan will do wonders.

didn't get to watch the whole game, Did Hughes get robbed of player of the game for the U.S or was the guy that was chosen worthy?

Mazur's a worthy choice. Funny part is that on Mazur's first goal he made a lazy pass back to Luke and the Swiss were almost able to clear it but Luke kept it in but didn't get an assist and then Mazur eventually finished it off. If it's not for that Luke might have gotten it

Luke Hughes with 3 assists tonight. Puts him at 1 G 4 A in 2 games. Pretty great game from him. Also led the US in ice-time once again by a pretty wide margin:

1. Luke Hughes: 21:18
2. Brock Faber: 19:09
3. Tyler Kleven: 18:55

Coach can let Hughes play more minutes because he avoids making physical plays. :sarcasm:

Only mostly joking. Hughes did seem uncomfortable with the early physical play.

Hi my Devils friends,

Just stopping by to say you sure have a beauty in Luke Hughes.

I‘ve watched several games this WJC and he’s the most impressive Defenseman I’ve seen this tournament.

He has absolutely phenomenal tools and is incredibly dynamic, but defensively he would be rough in the NHL this season. Even in this game against bigger Swiss players, he struggles with in-zone coverage and regularly loses puck battles along the wall. The upside is immense, but he needs time to continue cooking. He would get roasted down low in his own zone in the NHL right now.

Agreed, early in the game Hughes needed to either be more physical or use his quickness to get better initial positioning.

I would guess he will work on the latter since it’s hard to teach someone to instinctually be physical.

I was shocked when I learned this (not the animated one LOL) was Robert Redford. I figured it was some kind of foreign swedish film or something LOL
