Fourth best. Luke is the best defensive prospect outside the NHL followed by Nemec and Jirieck. Though I think Edvinsson is better then Jirieck
Sorry, I meant right defense prospect. Left defense is much deeper -- with the trio of Luke Hughes, Owen Power and Jake Sanderson neck-and-neck-and-neck at the top. I'd take all three of those guys over any of the RD prospects. Here's my quick top 5 rankings at LD and RD:

LD
1 Jake Sanderson
2 Luke Hughes
3 Owen Power
4 Simon Edvinsson
5 Kaiden Guhle

RD
1 David Jiricek
2 Simon Nemec
3 Brock Faber
4 Brandt Clarke
5 Ryan Chesley

And, of course, here's my overall defense prospect ranking -- I'm making it a top 7 because it's really close between 4 and 7 and then there's a bit of a drop-off

1 Jake Sanderson
2 Luke Hughes
3 Owen Power
4 David Jiricek
5 Simon Nemec
6 Simon Edvinsson
7 Brock Faber

It’s easy to see him playing well in the NHL as a smart steady partner for a more offensively biased partner. He should look great with Seider once he gets tht hang of the NHL.
Edvinsson and Seider would be a lethal pairing. Both huge, fast guys who are physical, shut-down beasts without the puck and excellent with the puck. It remains to be seen whether Detroit will pair them or spit them up. It's a nice problem to have.

That must have been ice time through 2 periods. No one is leading a team with 15 minutes. Probably felt like he wasn’t out there much tonight because it’s not like anything really happened positively or negatively when he was out there. Very quiet game

Lol thanks, I thought they were low too, but that was what was showing up on the IIHF WJC website. I guess the WJC is very slow to update stats on their Website. I’ll wait until the morning after to post ice-times next time.

Jiricek got injured in late December and had knee surgery.

He came back in May and played few games with his National team before playing 5 games in the WC later that month.

That isn’t that long ago. He also tested positive for COVID right before this tournament and he missed Czechia’s camp while quarantining. Jiricek only joined his team a few days before their first game on 8/9.

He’s had a rough tournament, with zero points and some memorable goals against, and if we had drafted him this board would be on Suicide Watch.

Still his injury obviously did derail his draft season and I would wait until next season to judge the guy.
Sure he has had a rough tournament so far and maybe he is not 100% or maybe he is. I’m just a fan but my opinion is I don’t think he is a very smart hockey player like some of the other defenseman he is being ranked with. I see all of the physical tools and puck skills but poor decision making. Maybe his ceiling is Darnell nurse if he hits? I can say that I’m pretty happy the devils have both Hughes and nemec and I hope that drafting nemec over jiricek proves to be the right move.

That’s the hope lol

I liked Jiricek but balked in the end at taking him at 2nd, his not great skating makes feel like it’s iffier that he hits his ceiling. Just felt like more risk than I could handle.

He also has a November birthday, and is older prospect for his draft year, so even with his injury it’s not quite the same situation as Luke in 2021 because he’s only 2 months younger than him.

Defencemen who are ready to play and step into the NHL right away are a rare thing. It usually takes years for them to sharpen their game and improve their weaknesses. You just draft guys who have the most tools, natural and physical gifts and hope they put it together in time. Might take as long as 6-7 years for some, so I wouldn't count out Jiricek or whoever anytime soon.

Only guys who come to mind in the past 10 years are Dahlin, Ekblad, and Hanafin. 2 1st overalls and another super highly touted guy

Doughty and Makar are the only two guys I remember as top 5 (in the NHL) caliber from their first shift. And they both made (and make) their fair share of errors vs. a more conservative rookie around that time (yeah I know there’s a 4-5 year gap) like Pietro or Suter but the instincts were far above peers of any age.

I’m sure I’m missing a few guys but those are the two that come to mind.

Luke, like Jack, is something different. We’ll see how the numbers shake out but I see them in that Kane, Ovechkin, Karlsson, etc, classification of player. Not saying they’ll be as good but the talent massively outweighs the bad that the latter is nearly negligible.

That loss was 100% not the Swedish goalies fault. If the Swedes could almost match SOG with the U.S in the first period they should have been able to keep it up in the next two but they didn't. You shouldn't need your Goalie to have a Career defining game in order to actually win.

Nevermind, I believe I misread your post.

Worth noting that Makar didn't explode until his D+2. That WJC was in the midst of his good but not exceptional NCAA season. He had 21 pts in 34 games that year. Then his D+2 he exploded for 49 pts in 41 games but wasn't at the WJC

Future NYR dirtbag with the knee on knee but it may not end up burning Canada.
