IIHF and the hosts are naive to say the least, to expect the teams to not get any cases of covid in a non bubble environment with Omicron doing it's thing right now.

This is all on them.

I feel sorry for the players missing out on this chance which for some will be the only chance they ever get, and especially the players who contracted Corona virus who might just blame themselves when they could do nothing about it. Being 17-18-19 years old it's easy to blame one self..
That's the thing.. if it was a bubble and a kid got it, I'd suspect he went out or broke protocol. I'm pretty certain, with no proof, this is not the players faults. I don't think they were breaking the rules they were given.

I assume the local health authorities had to provide approval for this tourney?

The NHL just reduced the quarantine to 5 days, but subject to local health authority approval...assume this tourney would need same approvals..

in any event, the whole thing is a mess. I feel for the kids playing and their parents.
Why would the local heath authorities approve a hockey tournament? They are busy with other things. There are standards that are generally set by health authorities.

The protocols being used are IIHF and would be used in any country or city. They are generally in line with national standards including Canada.

You stand corrected. IIHF is in charge of the standards and protocols for the event. They represent all countries involved. It is their tournament.

AFAIK, most international tournaments and events use organizers from the host nations/cities to help set up the tournament which is also agreed to. That's why there is a bidding process by the cities. It wouldn't make sense to me that after bidding for a tournament, the host cities become completely hands off after.

Is cancer transmissible? Can you get cancer by being in the same place as someone who has cancer. Can a cancer patient pass on cancer just by hugging another person?
Because of the murphy's law I am going to say the answer. Someone will always misunderstand your sarcasm.

No, cancer is not contagious.

A reflection of the insanity going through most of the world.

I feel really bad for these kids. They are a prop in all of this.

But I think a moment like this helps get us back to normal. Ordinary people wake up to how crazy all of this is when they see a tournament like this cancelled. This is a big embarrassment for those in power. Hopefully this forces accountability for what they’ve done. If that’s what it takes, then unfortunately this tournament is a needed casualty at this point.

Five and a half million people are dead

I know people in North America literally don't give a shit about anyone except themselves but holy shit
According to WHO the decision by first world countries to go into lockdowns forced half a billion people worldwide into poverty. That doesnt include the hundreds of thousands of canadian small businesses that got decimated or the insane amount of debt and inflation the lockdowns cost....the vast majority of canadians who will die from covid moving forward are those that chose not to get vaccinated. Its their choice...the rest of us have sacrificed enough. A hockey player in his late teens early 20s that is vaccinated is not in a high danger zone if they get omricon. They are looking at flu like symptoms for a few days before they are good to go. In Canada we have mask mandates, booster shots, vaccine passports, million have natural immunity from already getting covid and its been nearly 2 years. Enough is enough.

The standards and protocols are set by the IIHF. Yes the host committee implements things. The choice not to have a bubble is an IIHF choice though.
